It is nice to have a facial isn't it?  I have a free one next month courtesy of Elizabeth Arden.

I shall be patient about the chicks...

I'll try that again!

Are you excited Danuta?

Good luck with the chickies, hope they come out ok..

I think one of my little wheaten game is going broody, either that or it's egg-bound, it's spent most of the day scratching about in one of the laying boxes. problem is I've only had 1 egg from them since I got them afew weeks ago, and the birds are so small that I think they'd fall off if I tried to put normal eggs underneath them.

wave Well I am just home from my meeting and what did I find - a little black chick looking at me. But it is not the one that started first.  It is still only poking its head out of a small hole.  It is still alive though.  The other egg has a hole in it too, so I am expecting it all to be over by morning.  They need to dry their feathers  and rest and then tomorrow later on I shall transfer them to their heated home.

Wish my wee feathered friends luck everybody please.

wave  It all worked    welldone    and I have 3 beautiful little black chicks in the incubator all nice and dry and fluffy and having a wee rest.  Or should I say pecking  each other already.  I suspect  they will be fine when I transfer them to their box later on.

I will confess I did help one of them out of the shell - the book told me that was forbidden - but it was the one that had been trying for about 15 hours and it had its legs out but didn't seem to be able to get itself completely out.  Anyway I think I did the right thing as it recovered very quickly and now I wouldn't know which one it was.  The third one hatched in the night.

I have the box almost set up, but again the instructions say to keep them in the incubator for one day, so I shall wait till later on.

Now all I have to do is look after them till they are old enough to go outside with the others.

Now what will I do next I wonder?????   whistle   whistle    whistle

I have a broody hen that I have put three duck eggs under and she seems quite happy and I have a rogue hen sitting on eggs outside of the hen run.  I don't want these chicks from her as they will be lightweight  and will escape and I am trying to change my stock to heavier bodied hens.   monster   monster

wave Hi Danuta,

Congratulations on your 100% hatch....what a thrill.  So do you want me to send you some Dorking eggs ? If so how many do you want, Do you want to put some under the broody as well as in the incubator? PM me with your address if you want them.

I have often had to help a chick out of it's shell & it is usually OK if you are very careful.

PS: If I sent eggs off on Monday morning, they would be ones laid over the weekend. I would send them the fastest way I can....not sure if the post-office has a fast parcel post....it is years since I sent a parcel. I will do a little research online unless someone else knows.

Now you will have the fun of watching your little ones grow up.

doh doh doh

OK, Ignore that request.....I suddenly had a clear head for a couple of seconds & found them......I'm not very bright this morning......probably because the sun has gone & it is cloudy & grey again......Boo-hoo  cry

wave I think they are black rock hens.  There should have been a Sussex in there but I got the wrong eggs seemingly.  I just hope all three are not cockerels.  eeek  That would be just my luck.  big_laugh
