just read the start of the cockerel saga, Nadine - yes we've had a problem with cockerels fighting, not a pretty sight, we had to shoot the new arrival (dumped on us,left at the side of the road one day)

eeek  Ooooh, I have never had to go as far as shooting anything BUT I can see why you wouldn't want to get very close to a fighting cock. In fact that was one of the things that scared me after the event.....I just dived in & caught him by the ankles, sharp spurs just above my hand. Luckily if you let them hang head down they stop attacking (well in my experience  roll_eyes ), you can't keep them like that for very long as it suffocates them. I cut the wings of my birds this way, holding them by their ankles in my left hand & cutting the wing feathers with scissors in my right. It only takes 30 seconds per wing because they don't flap around.

Antony is in great form this morning & full of vim & vigour (he is eating like crazy). They have all had a bit extra to help them over the shock & because it is pretty chilly down here, especially in the wind. Today is very sunny with a blue sky so they can sun themselves in a sheltered spot.  Mama hen usually finds the best place for her 10 chicks but now the others are allowed to join them. It is lovely to watch as they all get on so well. That is why the fight came as such a shock.

sorry you are not getting as many eggs as you want. Normally I don't expect any from mid-November through till about second week of January but now I have my own bred crosses they seem to be the ones who lay during these months & that encourages the pure bred ones to lay an occasional one too.

You sound very busy with all your sales & everything else, good luck to you.  big_hug

Well Antony has had a perfectly normal healthy day, he is obviously completely over his shock & injuries.  He has been chasing his girls around & mating them.......!!! laugh
