hi there, my first post. keeping chickens for the last year and one of my first bantams i noticed after picking her up from local farm had scaly leg but i think this might have fixed itself or been treated before she was given to me as my other chooks have never devloped any problems and i was just wondering if there is any way i can help her legs as they are a little scaly but not sore or red and i dont know whether it was best to leave it or treat it? any advice?Confused

Never had scaly leg and niether have my hens!

However I did read that one treatment is to coat legs with petroleum jelly - smothers the mite responsible apparently

Some people also coat combs with it during winter to prevent frostbite!

i spray surgical spirit on the legs as they roost.. then cover the legs in vaseline.. treat for at least a week.. then leave the affected scales fall off on their own.. DONT try to remove the dead scales.. it will cause more complications..
