Our tiny cockerel Baby, has done something to one of his legs. I noticed he was hobbling this evening. Recently I've spotted he stays well out of the way of the rest of the flock and only feeds and drinks at dusk returning to the ark to sleep alone.

I picked him up to examine his leg and claw which seemed not to be broken. He's very tame and closed his eyes as I gently cuddled him.

So if he's not better tomorrow I'll take him to the vet. When Lightning died I swore that I would try not to get too fond of my chickens. But this little fellow has stolen my heart.

Poor little thing, I hope you and the vet can help him.  I don't know how you could avoid becoming attached to your flock, I'm sure I would be the same since they are such endearing creatures.  Good luck.

I'll try that again!

This morning I examined him carefully in full daylight. He's happy to lie on his back like a baby in my arms. I noticed that he had an infected cut on his leg and claw. So I sprayed and cleaned them with antiseptic every couple of hours and did some healing on him. By dusk he's still limping but much less than yesterday.

Needless to say he's loving the attention. His sister Zebedee was really interested in me in doctor mode and ended up standing on my head to get a better view Smile

I can just see you - babe in arms, and another on head.  What a delicious thought.  I'm glad that Baby seems better, did you do some Reiki on him?

I'll try that again!

Not exactly Reiki but something similar - it seems to work well on animals.

It's good that you know how to work that magic.  How is he today?

I'll try that again!

He's still not right but a bit better. He's such a sweet little soul.

Awww, what a cutie, piccies please!!

It is hard to not feel attatched to animals when you feed and look after them day and night! My OH keeps talking about duck and christmas, but when I go and feed the ducks in the morning and they look at me so trustingly, I think we may have a vegetarian xmas!! Perhaps it's a woman nurture thing??

Hi TA

Baby is much better - he ran away from me today so the leg is healing. He's also mixing more with the rest of the flock.

Hi Raenbow

I'll get D to take a snap of me with baby in my arms.

I just wanted to add that I used a fabulous spray on Baby's bad leg. It's made by Savlon and its a cleaner and antiseptic. Perfect for using on a pet or human.

Good news!  I hope he continues to improve.  A picture of you both would be lovely, I look forward to it.

I'll try that again!
