Michelle, it is so good to see you here again.  Good luck with the Chickens, Hattie and Danuta will give you all the help you need.

I'll try that again!

Welcome to the chicken club! If possible find out what they are used to eating and continue with the same. They do not like change! Be aware that they may take a while to give you eggs as they will need time to settle down. Try to handle them often so that they get used to it as it makes it easier to check them for mites etc. most of all enjoy them, they are great fun and I certainly wouldn't be without them!

You will notice the difference with your home grown eggs, amazing coloured yolks and better taste. Cakes are better made with them too.

poor because we are still trying to pay off the debts from last year: both of us working and hubby's wage good but still breaking even each month as we try to pay off.  Once done we also need to renovate so that too takes money.  But we are getting there and that is the important thing 🙂

I am soo excited about the chickens and will post pics when we have them 🙂 (probably but not definitely next week)

Good luck with them Shelley. My advice is too always talk to them gently...it seems to soothe them & try not to make sudden jerky movements around them. Try not to run after them (unless you have no option because they are fighting etc) but stay still & wait till the right moment to grab them. Bribe with their favourite treat....with mine it is digestive biscuits or cheese !!

I'm sure they will bring much joy into your life, as well as the delicious eggs.

If you have left over cooked spaghetti feed it to them as it is very funny to watch. laugh

wave Shelley, I just love my hens.  I talk to them every day and they talk back.  wink  When I moved house recently, the laying pattern was a bit upset, so be prepared, as Aly said, for them to take a wee while to start  laying.  They like to have things at different heights to jump up and down on, anything that will challenge them a bit.  I too feed mine pasta, they adore it as a treat.   I am sure you will love having them.  Enjoy!  big_hug
