Today I have tried to rescue and totally ruined a batch of quince jelly; arrgh!!
Then made some fig conserve which actually went ok
In between I taught 2 little boys for their reading lesson, went to the Maire as I have been accepted for the market and needed to confirm dates and find out my spot!! They were thrilled with the jam and fruit jelly sweets that I gave them!
I also dropped hubby off at the airport as he has a weeks work in MALTA (typical we cant afford a proper hol this year and he gets a week in Malta!)
Finally I did a weekly shop and cooked tea: phew!

was very annoyed about the quince jelly; especially as as well as burning it, I also tried overfilling the jelly bag before chucking it and it slipped into the juice spraying it all up the walls, table, floor etc etc!!

Oh Shelley – I've been there – it breaks your heart, doesn't it?
So, too, when hubby forgot to put in the seal in the espresso coffee maker – all over the walls, the ceiling – and WHO gets to clear it up?
I think you know the answer to that!!

my achievement for today is a sad one, we came back from Solfest to find all our tomato plants had been stricken with blight :(
So today I ripped them all out and have chucked them in the green council garden waste bin. The beds look so folorn and empty without them.

I hate when that happens, Rae. I hate when Fiona's blog article on tomato blight suddenly starts being blitzed by search engine visitors because it signals disaster and sadness. Thankfully, it has not been busy so far this year. Really bad luck.

And I though that sort of behaviour only happened with Pakistan cricket and some snooker players.

lol got to get your contacts onside in the Mairie!!
One of the ladies is lovely and goes out of her way to help; the other is well known in the village for being the most miserable being in the area!! She was posted on the reception desk this summer….. specifically to put off any enquiries when people were on their hols I am sure. She nearly cracked a smile when I gave her her jam!

Really enjoyed the treat. whilst there got the last ticket for the
relay of Das Rheingold from the Met in October…ooooh the excitement. I
shall need my glasses for that…..
Where will you be seeing it, Kate – in London, or locally. I had a look on t'internet, but I couldn't find out where !!!
I'm seeing it at the cinema in Henley who do these live transmission thingies- got the last ticket for Die Valkyrie today, have to wait until May for that one- but the seat is centre of the front row, so the Rhine should wash over me nicely. Gotterdammerung doesn't happen until about a year's time- better be worth the wait….
Rae- sorry to hear about your tomatoes, such a bummer.

Oh Rae I am so sorry. I was in tears last year when it happened to me.
I made apple and plum chutney today and worked in the garden. It was a lovely day.

Gee. What's the world coming to?

We understand this, too. When we had to go the Planning department to get some plans passed on structures that we had already built, (oops!), we were told by the Mairie that the individual we were going to see was "an original" – whatever that meant! Then, as an afterthought, the Mairie told us that the guy "… does like whisky ….".
This man was something else! He looked like a tramp, if I can say that; his hair was long and all over the place, his baggy jumper had holes in it, and he certainly did not look like a professional government individual!
As it turned out, despite a few rantings and ravings at people who dared to phone him while we were in his office, he was quite a guy!
When we arrived back to our house, hubby found a good bottle of whisky, and put it in a bottle bag, and went back to the guy's office.
When he came out from his office, he told hubby that "This is against the rules! Trying to bribe a government officer! Thank you very much, though!" and they shook hands!
As Shelley says, it pays to do the right thing. It's how it is.

Oh, Rae. That's rotten!
That happened to us last year, too.
I presume the green tomatoes weren't good enough to save?

I wish I had your energy Joanna, I've done nothing at all today. I blame the arrival of Country Living magazine…
Energy! None left today I ache – glad to be studying instead
Hope the Country Living magazine was worth not getting anything done for though TA
Sorry to hear about the tomatoes Rae, I was upset last year when mine all got blight as we hadn't had anything off them but we did get green tomatoes and reaping the benefit now.
