wave  Well done to you all Val. star star star  It seems to have been a successful, if tiring,  day all round.  I hope you are going to take it easy this week.   big_hug

Thanks, Danuta, that is indeed what we plan to do – but this morning we had to rush over to daughter's place, as she was putting on a party for our granddaughter. Lovely day, lovely party, everyone thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere – Mums, too !!

At this point in time, I'm struggling to stay awake !!

Crikey – reading all of the previous page has left me feeling drained too!

Spent the weekend working on this site trying to make content more accessible for visitors from search engines. It's weird that the scrolling marquee display in the header works perfectly in all browsers except Firefox, which slaps all of the content onto the page (not within the boundaries of the container) until the entire page has fully loaded. On balance, I thought the benefits of having it there outweighed the temporary messiness for Firefox users. Anyway, most people are looking at the article when the page first appears and not at the top right corner.

Listing category and tagged contents is now much better, as is the search results page. I finally found the solution, after nearly a year of searching, to a WordPress setting that means category listings default to the same number of entries as the Home page (3). Managed to show 10 per page at last.

well done val for saturday!!

Today I was going to go to the beach but Joe was off colour and the weather here has been rather poor today; windy and cool not at all like the usual summer!

Instead I have been and picked more elderberries, used the total to make some elderberry syrup

then I used the plums I picked yesterday to make a plum and almond butter; it was rather tart on tasting, so I had to add more  sugar!

Finally I am making a tomato and herb jelly; it is dripping through my new jelly bag as I write and I am looking forward to completing it tomorrow.

Another busy day comes to an end!

Today I woke up in a bit of a huff, so didn't go to church, but a lie-in perkedmeright up smug, and we went over to a car boot sale at a nearby garden centre (and very bravely managed not to actually go into the garden centre – those places are dangerous), and I picked up an awesome bargain, a slow cooker for £4! never used. The Sam gained himself a timing light (for testing engine things, I vaguely understand what it does). So not a bad haul.

Theh we came home and hacon bacon and brie and cranberry sandwiches for brekfast, then went out in search of stuff – some really very cool sunglasses for the sam (which we found, but aren't sure if we should buy), and some more wool for me to finish the blanket I'm making for my niece for christmas, so that was also a success.

Then we came home and completed Lego Indian Jones, which isn't much of a useful achievement, but was very fun, and now my hair is being bleached within a mm of its life again, to get it really white.somewhere along the line two loads of laundry have also been done, and once i've washed this peroxide out of my hair i'll go pick some runner beans and have a tidy round the other veg.

Go Val with the fund raisingness. What was the bike event?and for what were the funds being raised? Also kudos to the D man for his webbery pokery techy stuff. I hate computers, so I envy your tinkerings not.

Intolerance will not be tolerated.

To reply to Rae Mond (again …..!) the Bike Meet is the biggest free motorcycle event in the south-west, and the most amazing thing is the camaraderie that it generates.

Next door to the Town Hall is a complex for a sheltered housing community – and some bikers took the old'uns (in body, of course, but young'uns at heart) for some rides, and their generosity is very evident. Our cake stall goodies were sold purely by donations – there were no prices on any of it.

The event is run by the Rotarians (hubby is a Rotarian), and one of the recipients of the fundraising is the Wiltshire Air Ambulance, which is run financially very close to the wire, so needs all the support it can muster! Other recipients will be the local youth trust, and other Rotarian charities. Last year, the First Responders (motorcyclists who are willing to deliver or attend for local emergencies) and also Naomi House – a hospice for sick children – received some of the funds.

Lord Lansdowne (The Bowood Estate) this year invited the Bikers to a 'ride-out' to his home, at 4pm, with a beer tent and a live Rock Band, until 6 pm, with an aerial photo to be taken of the assembled bikers. Having had a sneak look at some of the bike forums, I saw that the ride-out was very well received, and the comments on those forums and by individuals on the day suggest that this is a 'must do' event in the annual bike calendar.

Tiring, but fantastic day.

Brilliant, BS. Sounds like iit took a heck of a lot of organising.

Any guesstimate as to how many machines and bikers attended?

Thanks Danny – yes, we start organising next year's event – well, about now !!!!!!

Some things need to be booked quite early – like the quad bikes for the 'family fun' part of the day.

Last year's estimate was 4,000 people attended, although that could be people as opposed to actual bikes, not sure. We will be meeting up on Thursday evening, so perhaps we'll know a few more figures to relate by then. The St John Ambulance lady who is here every year with her colleagues reckoned that this year was bigger, but we'll know a bit more by the end of the week I expect.
