It sounds awesome! I am now thinking that maybe getting a little bike would be a plan for me, as not having my own vehicle is a bit rubbish. I'm slightly concerned about accidentally killing myself on one though, I'm not the most co-ordinated of souls.

Our mundane mondeo wouldn't start this morning, apparently the fuel pump is kaput. I've never liked this car, it's dull and huge and keeps going wrong. Plus, I've been unreasonably biased against it since before the man bought it, as the day he went to have a look at it I was on a train on the way back from a training course and in a really stinking mood, looking forward to hugs and sympathy, and got back to a dark, cold, empty house with ABSOLUTELY NO HUGS to be had. It would have had to be a pretty spectacular car to have overcome this bad start, so discovering a few days later that the engine needed to be replaced secured its reputation as a bad, horrible, car.

Unfortunately the current main contender to replace it is a white BMW. There is no good reason to own a white car, let alone a BMW.

Intolerance will not be tolerated.

Newer! Even more improved!

Any guesstimate as to how many machines and bikers attended?

Last year's estimate was 4,000 people attended, although that could be people as opposed to actual bikes, not sure. We will be meeting up on Thursday evening, so perhaps we'll know a few more figures to relate by then. The St John Ambulance lady who is here every year with her colleagues reckoned that this year was bigger, but we'll know a bit more by the end of the week I expect.

I was told at lunchtime (today) that 4000 was indeed the number of bikes last year. ok

It isn't necessary to come on a bike – you could come just for the spectacle of the event – and we're just over one hour from you, Rae Mond (well, Cardiff, anyway!!)   smile

Lord Lansdowne (The Bowood Estate) this year invited the Bikers to a 'ride-out' to his home, at 4pm, with a beer tent and a live Rock Band, until 6 pm, with an aerial photo to be taken of the assembled bikers. Having had a sneak look at some of the bike forums, I saw that the ride-out was very well received, and the comments on those forums and by individuals on the day suggest that this is a 'must do' event in the annual bike calendar.

Tiring, but fantastic day.

For 4000 bikes I wouldn't like to have been behind the bar at the beer tent…..or waiting in the queue to get served….if we'd have known in advance we could have all had got our French Maids outfits out, helped out and considered it a rehearsal for the CS event….cheerscheers big_laugh

Well done to you with the cake stall…very worthwhile causes….Rotarians do a lot of good that is unsung….welldonewelldone

I see your point, Elsa, though I don't know how many went back to Bowood House – but yes, that would've been fun, some wrinklies, and others, all tarted-up in French Maid outfits, and then getting a fit of the giggles, when some hunky bikers arrive on the scene. I can just picture it !!!!big_laugh

Yes, Rotarians do work hard – there aren't enough of them to spread the work!

(We need really good ideas for large events for monies to come in quicker – but then everyone is looking for that elusive bit of magic)

Their long-term plan to rid the world of polio has now reduced to just 3 countries – Afghanistan, Pakistan and Nigeria – it would be wonderful for it to disappear altogether. Sadly nowadays the world is a lot smaller with air travel, so it needs to happen soon-ish ……

Here's hoping!  ok

wave  Today has seems a bit like a week if you know what I mean. runaway     It started off with a planned visit from a very handsome black labrador called Sam. dog   He had come to meet his new wife, my lab Midge.  After a dodgy start ( you don't want the details !!), he seemed to get the hang of things and they mated successfully.  The same thing happens again tomorrow morning.   If successful, this will be her third and final litter.  First time she had 6 pups  and last time she had 5, not too many and manageable for her and me.  It is all very exciting.

Then I had to go to my friends house .  He is away in Zambia specifically to shoot buffalo, quite a dangerous pastime as they are very big and can be very aggressive.  Anyway I am looking after his dogs.  I can't have them at my house for lots of reasons, Midge being in season being one of them, so it back and forward for me.

Then off to Tighnabruaich for a visit to the lovely breast screening van.  What a lot of fun that was.monster.  but a necessary evil methinks.  Then I did some shopping and then stopped off in Glendaruel  at a friend's house.  She was preparing for a visit from people involved in Permaculture and I had been invited for supper later on.

Then back to see the dogs again and give them a good run and then home to do the same for my dogs.

At no time did I mention breakfast or lunch – no time to fit any of that in.

Then paperwork for the Village Hall and a quick look at CSH.

I have just spent a lovely relaxing evening putting the world to rights with friends old and new.  We had a lovely meal and I am now relaxing with a glass of white at home.

Tomorrow as I said more dogs and then I am going to visit a Victorian walled garden that has now grown wild.  There is a wonderful glasshouse there and I wish it could be renovated.   I'll let you know what the permaculture guy thinks could be done with it.

What an extremely satisfying life you have fashioned for yourself, Danuta. Both relaxing and active.

We hope we can do the same when the time comes. cheers

I put it down TA, to the fact that she is nearer the North Pole so has far more hours of daylight than the rest of us….more light, more energy, more need to do….now me being nearer the equator…I rest my case…. I have just laid a blanket on the ground, shook my wild damson tree and have enough for jam and gin so my afternoon is tickerty boo…wavewhistlewhistle

You're probably right Elsa!  When you said you'd just laid a blanket on the ground I thought you were going to be sun-bathing.  Why waste damsons on jam though?  big_laugh

wave Well so far today has not gone to plan at all.steam  The husband dog came over again this morning but it was a complete failure  (please do not ask!!!!!!)  It was quite disappointing.  We are trying again for the last time tomorrow.  Hopefully she will be pregnant now, but it is recommended that they mate twice to be sure.

I should have been at the walled garden by now, but I would have been very late so I called off.  I just decided to make a cuppa tea  and catch up here before I go along the road, feed and exercise dogs,  clean the  bottom floor of the big house, ( top two floors on Thursday  )  exercise dogs again, come home and exercise dogs etc, etc, etc.

Then I am hoping to have a few hours being a slob and watching television.  We shall see!!!

Wow, the sun has just come out.  What a surprise  surprised

Now TA

Strange you should mention sun-bathing…..Dolly Parton laid a blanket on the ground for other reasons which shall remain nameless ( and it is against my religion) but I have just strategically placed the sunbed underneath the said tree when I climbed the ladder to get some more free stuff…………

(a) to catch the ones that didn't manage to get to the blanket and

(b) hopefully something soft to aim for if I fell off the ladder….(see my diary for pickies later).eeekeeek

I do think at my age that I should be 'looking for a small child to get them down…now what did you have in mind for entertaining the one you have….big_laughbig_laugh

Do slow down Danuta, you'll wear yourself out!

Elsa, that was Tammy Wynette, not Dolly.  whistle    Perhaps I could send you a couple of Polish children who are creating mayhem down in the courtyard?

I'll try that again!

Today I did my first trawl of the charity shops to organise hats and trimmings for a Workshop I'm taking at the Bridport Hat Festival in September http://www.bridporthatfest.org/index.html on making period hats from charity shop hats.

Got some really  good- shaped cheapo hats to use as starter hats and some excellent trimmings also some lovely bluey duck feathes down by the river.

Any of you chicken/turkey/guinea fowl/goose keepers got  big feathers you don't want? If so, YES PLEASE, the more the merrier.

Kateuk makes things at http://www.etsy.com/shop/finkstuff and sometimes she does this too http://www54paintings.blogspot.com/ and also this http://finkstuff.weebly.com/

That sounds like a fun day Kate.  I can't remember the last time I spotted a hat in any of our charity shops but good luck in your quest.

I'll try that again!
