Too many books in this house. Literally stacks of cookbooks. Seems to be a familiar "problem" with many of you too.
I have reached the happy phase where I can skim through a cookbook in the shops and "taste" the recipes in my head. If at least three ring loud and good bells with me, then I may consider buying it. Nigella's never once tempted me for that reason.
Fiona got one of Valentine Warner's books after his visit here (a present from a friend of her mum's) and it rang my bells. I must actually read it now and try some of them. "What to eat now – More please" – based on his TV series that we did not see.
You have a fantastic site, Veronica. Thanks for the link to your Vintage Feasts series. what a brilliant idea! My mouth is literally watering as I read them.

Dorothy Hartley's books are amongst my favourites ever….I love the illustrations in them. Unfortunately not many people know of her work nowadays. I am always amazed just how cheaply they sell for in second-hand shops. They were in my Grammar School library so I have known them for 60 years or so.
Oh, it is good to be reminded of old friends…..I have used her illustrations for designing props for period plays etc. (I was a designer in the theatre).

I enjoyed that autobiography so much; so honest about her own faults. One of the few I really thought were telling the truth. I hope you enjoy it Janet.

I also have 'Rifling Through My Drawers'. I gave 'Food' to my friend Siddhartha in Delhi, which he loves, keeps it in his car to dip into whilst being driven around India. I hadn't realized how many books she has written. I feel a new wish-list emerging.
