Inspired by Danny, I went to my local leisure centre today, got some info and an application form to get an "active leisure card" which entitles me to enter the fitness studio and other areas. They do a "Pay and Go" option, so you can book in advance and pay on the day- they also have monthly and annual direct debit payments which lets you use almost any facility without futher payment, but I can't be doing with that.

I will take the form in tomorrow and then I have to have an induction and fill in a health questionnaire.

Then I should be free to use the equiment. They did suggest I went to body pump as an activity- when I was working, my much younger colleagues found that exhausting, so I think I will give that a miss at the moment.

Are we having fun yet? I am!

Well thank you all for the b'day wishes. It seems like a lifetime ago already. frown

No progress on the job front so I decided to shake things up my moving up north. I like Ipswich but having been trying for work witin commuting distance of London with no joy, a change of scene may also change my luck.

So on Saturday I move to Leeds. The logic being that is in the belt of cities that runs from Liverpool to Hull and so presents a decent chance of employment. And I have a hankering to see West Yorkshire while I have the opporunity and before winter sets in.

I will take a house share with just one other guy who is also a contractor, so we have the run of a 4 bed house. It seems really nice and the owner and his GF are lovely people. I don't have to stay beyond the end of Oct if it transpires that it was a dud move.

Fiona turned 60 on Sat and is starting to move her mum into a retirement home at last. Her mum finally accepts that it is the best option. She bought an electric bicycle for popping down to the allotment and to the post office in the village to post her eBay parcels.

My torn ligaments are fully healed now although the soles of my feet get tired if I am standing or walking for too long. They had better shape up because Leeds is a big place to explore on foot cheers

Yes, what Sue said!  Good luck and please let us know how it goes?  The house sounds as if you will have a lot of space to move in.  Fingers crossed that the contractor will be a good chap to help you in the job stakes.

I'll try that again!

wave  Yes, good luck for the move, job hunting & your ligaments holding out up in Leeds.  I have always liked that city. I used to go to the opera there when I lived up in Swaledale, it has a thriving opera company (Opera North).  You must visit the wonderful covered market there, a Victorian fantasy of wrought iron.

Glad to hear news of Fiona, we miss her blogs so much.

Take care of yourself & keep in touch.   big_hug

Good luck Danny. As and aside, my Mum was born and raised in Leeds, her house has gone now- it was back to back stuff which was swept away in the 60's for wider roads and industrial estates. Luckily before they houses were demolished the Leeds Council Surveying dept went round and photographed the streets and the pictures are in the Leeds City archives to view online- I have pinpointed the house and left a message to indicate my mother and family lived there up to the 1950's

Thanks for your good wishes, all. It's nice to have somewhere to describe my various (abridged) adventures too big_laugh

Nothing ever goes according to plan, does it?

Yesterday morning my 10 yr old Rover 75 conked out in a swirl of burning oil fumes and sound effects of an arthritic farm tractor. It smells and sounds expensive. It did restart when the tow truck arrived but I expect a very sharp intake of breath when the garage present the estimate this afternoon or tomorrow. So I will probably not be moving on Sat after all. Hopefully within a few days though.

When I went to view the house in Leeds on Sun I optimistically brought some of my books and clothes etc and got agreement to stash them there. That's important because the round trip costs £80 a pop so I want to be able to take the rest in one go. But my little room now boasts a small mountain of mixed personal effects in the middle of the floor. I need to get motivated! Took my too-big suits to the charity shop on Mon and will take my shrts when I go for my morning shift tomorrow.

Sadly, I never did get to use my gym membership (sorry, Martin). A bit of a waste in hindsight.

Oh Danny, what rotten luck about the car breaking down……hope you can get it fixed quickly & at a reasonable price. The sooner you get to Leeds to job hunt the better you will feel.

Sending positive vibes & happy thoughts to you.  big_hug
