Hattie and I are in Buckinghamshire, can you get here too?  Here is a link to steam trains.

I'll try that again!

Oops!

Don't show Dan this site, or he will insist on a major side trip, and Rae isn't in the country any more! I am sure P has already told him about the West Somerset Railway, and the South Devon Railway. (I keep wanting to type RR for railway--only works in American! big_laugh)

West Country--I could get to Exeter or Plymouth easily by bus. Less easily than last week, since angry Stagecoach has reduced the timetable from once an hour to every other hour monster but it can be done.

Or we could meet here--in my garden if fine (unlikely, but no less unlikely than the sun and heat we are having at the moment) or indoors.

I'd follow Joanna's advice, get a good sized map, stick pins in all the places you really, really want to go, then have a look and see what else you can fit in nearby/on the way. It will make finding a route easier.

You are coming for six months aren't you?big_laugh

Kateuk makes things at http://www.etsy.com/shop/finkstuff and sometimes she does this too http://www54paintings.blogspot.com/ and also this http://finkstuff.weebly.com/

wave It is, Val but not as far as you think.. But it would be lovely to have B&B in Fort William the day before.  I have never been on this train, but have always wanted to.  Anyway, in a place where you have to travel to get anywhere Fort William is not too for away, about 3 hours.  big_laugh

Now there's a thought... I will be in Bucks around the 23rd of September for my dad's 90th birthday.

Michelle, if you end up venturing anywhere near York, which in itself is a beautiful city, then you are very very welcome to come and stay with us. However I don't want to upset any of the others who are fighting over you, but we are in the middle (sort of, between Danuta oop north and Val down sarf.

Aww, you guys! big_hug

I need to go pick up a UK map and start putting pins in it like Joanna suggested! Hopefully we can pick some central locations and get folks together for lunch/ dinner/whatever as we're moving around.

Dan will be making some decisions about the tickets very soon, and then we can make some definate (kind of) plans...

Other than trains for Dan (and he wants to see a CASTLE!!! big_laugh), the only REAL, DEFINATE thing I want to see, other than as many of you all I can squeeze in, is the Uffington White Horse. After that I am open to seeing the whatever the region we are in has to offer.

If you can't be a shining example, be a terrible warning!

Oh, Danuta, that made me chuckle, that did !!! big_laugh   big_laugh

Actually, a mistype, it made me chickle - whatever that may be!!!!  laugh

(Either a pickle with cheese wrapped around it, or chewing gum, or somesuch!)

Michelle, The Uffington White Horse is under an hour from us, BUT we have one just five minutes away - the Cherhill White Horse - which, initially, had a glittering glass 'eye' formed by many bottles upturned into the ground. Unfortunately, they have been dug up as souvenirs over the years - a real shame!

Also nearby in Devizes, 15 mins away, The Caen Hill Locks, which may be very interesting to Dan.

Avebury Stone Circle; West Kennet Long Barrow, a Neolithic tomb; Silbury Hill, part of a UNESCO World Heritage site (including Stonehenge) - all within 15 minutes of us.

If you are visiting Kate, then a castle visit, surely, has to be Windsor Castle, home to the Royal Family - the most well-known around the world, I would think !

As Kate says, you are coming for 6 months, aren't you? laugh

"How do you spell 'Love'?" (Piglet).

"You don't spell it, you feel it" (Pooh).
