Michelle, as well as the map to stick pins in see what touristy offers there are--the National Trust owns lots of castles, stately homes, etc. with good gardens, English Heritage owns others. It is worth thinking about what you may want to see and finding out if there is a cheaper entry pass available in the US.

The York rail museum is essential for Dan if you are in York--even interesting for a quick visit for you!

The country is littered with castles so Dan will probably be able to see more than one. Devon has Castle Drogo, built in the 20th century and the last castle built in the UK, among others.

Seeing at least one of the quintissentially and quaintly English cities--York, Cambridge, Exeter, Chester, for instance, would be high on my list.

Better make it the 22nd or the 24th, the 23rd being my dad's birthday. It'll depend on my getting T into respite, someone to house sit the dog, ducks and other birds, and what train tickets I can book cheaply enough. When I can draw all that together I'll let you know! smile

Never assume anything - except an occasional air of intelligence.

Yeah Whales!!!!

We went to the travel agent today, and it looks like we are going to be going on out trip from September 13-27th......

Dan still needs to clear the dates with his boss, so nobody carve anything in stone yet, but he should know and get tickets purchaced tomorrow.

We are flying into Glasgow (yeah Danuta!) and flying out of Heathrow (please Kate?). As for the in-between, the only thing for sure so far is we definately want to do The Jacobite Run on the train. Once we get that date set, if anyone else wants to go too, please, please, please come along!

SO, moving north to south, who would we be visiting next?

(I gotta map today, I need to dig out my pins....)big_laugh

Maybe? big_laugh

As you know, Dan wants to do lots of trains. Where you're at Danuta, would we be better off with a car?

Oh, do you Skype Danuta? I'd love to call you and talk about everything, probably on the weekend so I can have Dan talk to you too. If you could pm or email me your number that would be great!
