I love the peace & quiet while sat in the nursery watching lil un got to sleep.
It can be anything from 5mins to 30mins. This time not only allows me to sit & marvel in wonder at the fact the small boy in that bed is really mine, I count my lucky stars & thank God for him everyday.
But this time also forces me to sit down and stop. I think about the day, things I need to do, what to cook for supper, sometimes I even nod off.
Then my other favourite bit happens……. I sneak downstairs, into the kitchen & pour myself a nice glass of red wine ahhhhhhh better already

Dealing with the produce has been a bit of a headache. We have a large upright freezer but not a chest freezer. I have been experimenting with different storage methods. Carrots, beetroot and potatoes will be down in the cool basements we have, although I have dehydrated some carrots, that wouldn't have lasted, for stock powder. I have been making jams and chutneys too as they use a lot of produce up but I need some more jars. Experimenting with bottling veg and fruit too just to see what it all tastes like. Some of the produce is for seeds for next year when we hope to have enough to sell. Tomatoes have been dried as some of them I have grown are a bit wishy washy fresh but are rather nice dried – got two jars stuffed full of them now. I think we have forgotten how to store stuff but they used to manage in the olden days so there are ways and means.
Phew, it does sound like you don't have time for your embroidery !!!
What's "stock powder"? Dried tomatoes sound nice – are they sweeter dried?
You're right, they did manage in 'olden days' – (not that old, I can remember my Mum cycling to the shops each day to feed us), but didn't they have cold storage places, and underground? Also there wasn't central heating either!
We're very spoiled nowadays with all the gizmos and gadgets that are available.

You are right BS, my Mother never owned a fridge but she did have a very cold pantry where all stock was kept. I wish I had one.
EEK, we have horizontal rain!

Thanks Elsa, might take you up on that one day. BTW, full moon is tomorrow – though I was looking through my bins at it earlier and it did look full but, I think my eyes are not as good as they used to be. I hope we have clear skies tomorrow, I might just set my camera up on the tripod and try a shot or two.

Being up early on a nice sunny morning when all is quiet, sky is blue and birds are greeting the new day. First cup of coffee and ciggy. Thirty minutes max on the forum catching up.
Makes me laugh and starts my day off with a smile.

I don't, Val. It's getting impossible lately to read everything at one go.
So I save some for lunchtime.
And more for the evening.
I am no ian

Nope I don't have time for embroidery at the moment (especially with this forum ) but I have been to an awesome textile exhibtion and I would love to start creating again. Must find a way to get organised.
Dried tomatoes are a great way of making disappointing tomatoes taste of something, they are definitely tastier dried.
We have a cool basement so should be able to store root vegetables, apples and some storage tomatoes there and I do believe cabbage can keep quite well in a frost free basement. Actually I should start a new topic on storage solutions.

Someone living in the next village to us in the UK organised a 'knitted house' to raise funds for charity – and what they made was just amazing. They even had a thatched roof on the house (which was taller than me!). All the bricks, and even the door was knitted; the garden with lots of animals and other creatures – several birdboxes with different birds scattered around the house, under the eaves, etc.
When the door was opened, there was a knitted tea party laid out on the table, too.
I know what you mean Joanna, when you see other craft work, it is so inspiring.
