Rather than buy a kindle, just download Amazon kindle for PC and register then take advantage of the free books. I've just downloaded Sherlock Holmes as a tester and it looks fine.
Once downloaded and installed, you will need to register the reader with an Amazon account (if you have not already got an account create one), then look for books marked 0.00 in the shop.

wave  It's a great idea, but it would be a bit difficult to cuddle down in bed with the computer.  big_laugh   I love my kindle for reading in bed.

In my previous life Kindle is what rabbits do  (Giving birth ) ,Scarecrow would appreciate hers doing this .

Seed catalogues are responsible for more unfulfilled fantasies than the web and playboy combined . (after Michael Perry)

There seem to be quite a lot of decent free books available - I'll have to take a look, after downloading the mac version of the kindle reader...

Visit my blog for food, drink, photography and hamsters.

Depends on your operating system, search for Narrator.
In XP it's

On the Start menu:
Point to All Programs.
Point to Accessories.
Point to Accessibility.
Select Narrator.

Wow, I didn't know that function existed!  It's very quiet though.

I'll try that again!

We are having a bit of a palaver in our house, it would seem that Firefox works better at getting around Amazon's reluctance to download books - despite the fact they are supposed to be free on the web anyway due to being uploaded by volunteers, also some email accounts work better than others. Got there in the end both I and hubby have now been able to download some books cheers. Now just need some time to read them.roll_eyes
