So.... we got broken into and burgled 🙁

Luckily they did a grab and disappear raid and only took a few items that would make them cash fast... including my wedding and engagement rings :(, the one time I take them off.

They didn't trash the house so there's no damage to our rented place thank goodness.

We discovered it at 2am. My husband being very upset phoned his brother who we knew would be awake as he works in night security and then his brother phoned their parents. My father in law, bless him, then drove through the night from Cambridgeshire to Swindon to be with us.

We have now taken the scary decision to shout 'sod it ', and move to Cardiff. It's something we've been considering for a long time anyway, this has just finally tipped the balance. Unfortunately this means there won't be any carrots or onions this year as we're staying with friends before we find our own place - no space for pots even!

*sigh*

Next year!

That is awful, horrid news. Steam

God for you though to make the decision to move, go for it. You're right carrots & onions can wait till next year, happiness (& safety) has to come first Big_Hug

Oh that is dreadful news, I feel so sorry that this has happened to you and hope that you soon recover from the shock.  What a great Father-in-Law you have.  Big_HugBig_Hug

That would make anybody really angry and wobbly, Sidriss. Sometimes that things work out for the better, although "the better" may only become apparent in hindsight. Maybe you will up somewhere with a much better garden or plot! Big_Hug

Bum on the being burgled front. I got done over two summers ago (crikey that seems a long time), and the nasty bastards took my car as well Steam

However, on the plus side, Cardiff is awesome! Croeso! We shall have to set up a CSH mini regional forum and get together for tea and cakes and plant swapping etc.

Intolerance will not be tolerated.

How miserable, awful, horrid, unsettling, nasty. Monster

I was broken into in my previous house, and it was one of the things that helped me decide to move. It must be 8 years ago now. They were scared off, thank goodness, and ran off, leaving stuff piled in the drive which the police put back into the house. (I was away.) The only things they took were the remote controls--they must have stuffed them into pockets as they went. Yell There are still scratches on my dining table where they climbed on it, but it was refinished and looks better than before they damaged it. (Minor silver lining to the cloud.)

So, thinking of you, and  Big_Hug Big_Hug

Ooh that is horrid. I was burgled twice while a student. Even if there wasn't much to take, the sense of violation/intrusion is horrid. Hurrah for your FIL and I hope you enjoy living in Cardiff.  Big_Hug    Big_Hug   Big_Hug

Oh I am so sorry to hear about your break in.  I'm not sure how I would feel knowing someone had been in my house rooting among my things.  In fact I do know, it quite scares me especially as I live on my own.  I'm glad you have taken the decision to move and as Sarah J says the carrots and onions will do for next year. Like everyone else I send you lots of cuddles.

Sorry to hear this, Sidriss, it isn't nice. Thumbs_Down

(I had my handbag stolen 15 years ago, and I'm still not over it!)

I met a really nice man once, who told me that his wife had her handbag stolen, and he actually said 'She is having to re-invent herself and her life' - I can understand that.

I'm sure Sidriss, that you'll be going over this, and wondering what you could have done to prevent it - but it's happened, and try to look forward to a new start - it'll be great to move and start over in Cardiff.

In days gone by, when this area of Wiltshire had a lot of pig-farms, it was then called Swine Town - now reduced to Swindon. At this point in time, I bet you're thinking it was an appropriate name! Laugh

Sending big hugs and lots of good wishes to you .....  big hug Big_Hug  big hug

How horrible. I can understand you wanting to move - I'd hate having to get used to the idea that thieves had been wandering around my home.
