That sounds like a good idea, it doesn't look hopeful for quite awhile and I am sure that Philadelphia airport is not the best place to get stranded. Whistle

That will stop you worrying TA.  At least you know she is safe and comfortable.  Worrying about your kids when you can do nothing to help is a nightmare.

Yes like when my daughter who was 16 years old on her first lone plane flight managed to miss it - have to be fair and say the computers at the airport were playing up and she wasn't the only one Eeek. She spent the night in the airport but there was an angel looking after her, a youngish guy took pity on her and made sure she was okay Cheers

Missed flights are a real bummer. There was an occasion a few years ago when Fiona was heading off to Sweden for a convention on a Saturday morning and I was heading for Dublin later in the day, It was when they were building the new flyover on the M11 for northbound traffic to Stansted airport.

The work ran over the expected deadline and F missed her flight. I got away OK but she was stuck there for two days because there were no available seats on any later flights. It was a bit of a nightmare.

I really feel sorry for families who are returning from holidays abroad, stuck in a foreign airport and with probably little or no spare cash left after the holiday. That must be a real nightmare for the mums and dads.

I don't think he will!  E-mail from DD just arrived, staying with relatives still as the Philly flight was cancelled. She's quite happy sun-bathing on the deck...Roll_Eyes

I'll try that again!

Sir is in Chicago, supposedly returning on Thursday, doesn't look promising...he was at a conference and is staying on for a few days holiday with friends afterwards. Most of the other delegates have ended up staying on too - but without planning to in advance!

Kateuk makes things at http://www.etsy.com/shop/finkstuff and sometimes she does this too http://www54paintings.blogspot.com/ and also this http://finkstuff.weebly.com/

Kerfuffle what a descriptive word, and seemingly so apt.  Smile

There are a couple of contractors in work who usually fly home each weekend and who've had to spend the weekend in Belfast, away from their families. Some replacement server kit hasn't managed to make it Norn Iron from the mainland yet.

I'm anxious because I'm supposed to fly to Stansted on Friday, for a friend's wedding on Saturday. Fingers are firmly crossed that it all settles down by then. I've been looking at ferry-train options and not only does it take an awful long time to cover the distance it's a scary price too!

Also, G and I have noticed a few magazines we subscribe to haven't arrived this week.

All this and we've not even had a decent jaw-dropping red sunset to compensate us.

Mind you, it's nothing compared to some of the grief people are having to put up with.

Keeping my fingers crossed for everyone with travel problems.  Latest news from DD, she has spoken with United and was told that the earliest direct flight will be 1st May.  She and hubby have written e-mails to their bosses...Eeek

I'll try that again!

Where's the wind when you need it most?

My cousin sent me an e-mail today:

Subject: No, Iceland you've got it wrong again!

Dear Iceland,

What we actually said was

"Send cash as quickly as possible!"

"How do you spell 'Love'?" (Piglet).

"You don't spell it, you feel it" (Pooh).

'A hug,' said Pooh 'is always the right size!'

Love it!  Some people are so quick and so clever.

Some friends in Cornwall were planning on a trip to New York on Wednesday but don't think they'll be able to take it.  The problem is they have to travel all the way to the airport just in case, which means that their animals are still going into kennels/cattery.  Their one prospect is that they'll enjoy a night in London.

I'll try that again!

Not so sure that the skies will be reopened soon, BS. For so long as the insurance companies suspend cover, no airline will restart services, despite their huge and mounting losses. Plus, the reports from Iceland (the country) indicate that the volcano shows no signs of abating.

I have a colleague from India visiting France right now, who is due to fly back in two weeks time. We are not confident that his airline will be running.

Even if the volcano does die down, it will take a fewe days for ash to fall to earth,

Could be wrong but I see a possible long haul ahead (yes, pun definitely intended!) Doh
