My treasured piece of equipment is my washing machine…two seconds to load and then I can get on with other things or just listen to it and this reminded me of memories from my grandparents days …the fire that had to be lit under the copper, whites going in first and then the gradual progression until it was all completed and that mangle that did 'mangle' occasionally.  And it was always on a Monday….

Picking fruit, making jam, the old cooking range and how we used to get round the organ in the front room and granddad used to sing and my dad's favourite rendering was 'I think that I shall never see, a poem lovely as a tree'…

Where did that lot suddenly come from….ponderpondereeekeeek

Weird the way memories pop up! I used to have the job of operating the mangle and when I picture It I can smell the steaming washer in the copper. I can also see the kitchen but cannot remember much more of the house. I think smells bring the strongest memories.

When I was little my father used to get cross when anyone ate noisily, and say "you're like a cow eating mangolds", except my baby ears used to hear "mangles" and think of my grandma's big wood and cast iron one. . . . .

When my daughter was a baby she was chewing on a little rubbery squeezy toy car and it was squeaking against her gums. The noise it made brought back in a flash the feeling of chewing my toy duck and how it felt against my gums.Amazing, I didn't think I could remember that far back so vividly; though I do recall being bathed in the big sink in the kitchen and looking up at the leaves on trees from my pram…

I clearly remember sitting in my pram next to a wall covered in nasturtiums. It is so weird the things we remember.

I have lots of lovely memories from childhood, but Mike swears he remembers being a baby in the maternity ward, it's a great source of amusement every time he brings it up

Well, perhaps he has a marvellous memory – does he remember birthdays and anniversaries???

I'll try that again!

I remember being a naughty boy – I threw a stick at the back of a milk float, in Oldham, and then ran away- did not know about wing mirrors then, so was surprised when the mikman went straight to my house and told my mum. I think I was about three.

Saturday afternoon, screams of "Kick him & dirty blighter" from my mother??

That was all thanks to Mick McManus & Steve Logan. A brief trek down memory lane thanks to BBC radio Suffolk has reunited me with the "Hello Grappling Fans" now seen on Freesat (427 Wrestling Channel. I love watching Les Kellet's antics.

Good grief Bob, that has taken me right back to my 'yoof'.  Kent Walton and all that, Johnny Two Rivers, etc…

I'll try that again!
