Thanks, TA. I hope it will be done tomorrow. It looks as if we will be flying BA, not my favorite airline. None of them are my favorite, now I think of it, but BA is lower down the list than many. Officious, restrictive, inflexible, are words that come to mind. Some others allow 2 suitcases, they don't, which is a problem if my parents are getting rid of more things I might want so I come home with more than I start with. steam

Another monster is the cost of renting cars that you rent in one state to return to another. It seems to make it 4 or 5 times as expensive. steam But the bits we do by train will be wonderful. And once it is all booked we will celebrate!

I agree about Philadelphia airport–not necessarily my current least favorite, beause I thankfully haven't been there for so many years, but to be avoided. American has tended to have more leg room than some. When I (5'3") don't have enough leg room it is dire!

This started me thinking about using the initials of airlines–Best Avoided, and Joanna's  Always Avoided…

The BA flight we presumably will be on gets to Heathrow at 5.15 am. I didn't know that was allowed, and it shouldn't be! I wonder what ground transport will be like at that hour? I hope it will be sorted out later today. We may celebrate by visiting the Lost Gardens of Heligan afterwards.

Re: airlines:

Heard a report today that a group/band travelling in USA were boarding a United Airlines plane, and saw from the window that the luggage handlers were throwing their guitars. On arrival, all of the guitars were broken, so the group has written a song about it – they've had nearly 9 million hits on YouTube, and United shares have dropped.

Serves them right!

I don't like country music, but that's a good song, and a most excellent vid

Brightspark, the closest airport to my house is small, and there is a limited number of carriers that fly in and out of there, United being one. When I have to fly them and they start acting rudely, I will start whistling "United hates guitars" (the name of the song the band wrote).

It might not surprise you how familiar they all are with the tune now!big_laugh

Another regional airline that I take from time to time is Horizon, who I declared in a very loud voice one night after getting in 2 hours later than the flight was scheduled, "Horizon, their motto, We'll get there whenever the h*ll we feel like it!"

If you can't be a shining example, be a terrible warning!

Well, we are flying BA (B****y  Awful?) across the Atlantic, and Always Awful across the continent. I will report back in due course. The holiday is more or less booked, the flights are, and one of the car hire legs. But the train tickets aren't yet, thanks to their not realizing it would take a couple of days, and so the cars around them can't be finalized. monster

But, magic, when we asked about a room at Heathrow overnight, they looked at all the hotels on their website and there was one almost the cheapest, but you don't know which starstarstarstarhotel you stay at till you book. So for less than the cost of Holiday Inn, you get a 4star hotel. And we won't have to check out till noon, which is about when we would want to leave to get the plane. I could travel that morning, but P is flying in the previous evening from a work commitment, and anyway there was one awful journey by train when it was really windy and the train couldn't go more than 50mph and was very late and we only just checked in on time and I don't want that worry again.eeek

Loved this link. And the moral of the story is "do not throw around guitars belonging to folks who can write catchy tunes"monster

Your comment about BA is interesting, Barbara. I do not fly very much any more. The last long haul flight I took was London – Bangalore return with BA.

Maybe because I was flying on Saturday both times, I got bumped up from Premium Economy to Business Class with those wonderful seats that turn into beds. I really enjoyed both legs and the highlight was the complimentary lounge at Heathrow T5 on the way out.

It really is very good.

My pet hate airline is Ryanair.

Never knowingly underfed
