Ryanair! Hmmph.

I think Michael O'Leary – or whatever his name is – needs to take a step back and connect with his passengers again.

Our nearest airport in France was Angouleme, and a lovely journey to collect and deliver folk to, as well. He's had a 'falling-out' with them and has broken his 3-year contract with the airport. As I understand it, they are suing him.

Our son and daughter both used to fly Ryanair, and now use Flybe. Other relatives have stopped using them, too, now going over to Easyjet instead.

That's just our family. There must be plenty of others who feel strongly enough to change their carrier, too.

Yup we have only flown once with Ryanair and that was because it is the only carrier from Riga to the East Midlands. Our experience was fine if a little loud but I hate the attitude of Michael O'Leary with a passion monster. I don't like the way that he thinks he is doing everyone a favour by introducing cheap flights which can mean a lot of drunken louts descending on places eeek or folks with not much money going on jaunts and being left stranded when things don't go according to plan confused. Nice as cheap flights are when you live abroad or want a cheap holiday it is still not good for the environment. Wizz air apparently are good for Riga flights from Luton, a friend came out with them, and we have flown AirBaltic many a time. Our experince has always been good with them but I am getting concerned with the CEO of that company too as he seems to be acquiring a lot of power in the company that even the Government weren't made aware of, despite the fact that the Government is the largest shareholder in the company. Suggests a high degree of opaqueness in the dealingsdoh

Good luck with flying BA trans-atlantic. My experience was dreadful – rudest cabin staff ever! Over the years I've flown just about all the LAX-LHR airlines and now I only use Virgin Atlantic. Danny, I'm so glad you got bumped up on your flight – I'm sure it makes all the difference.

Suz, i agree tha Virgin Atlantic are the best of a poor bunch. This time we fly to Vanouver, then LAX to Boston, then Boston-LHR, and that combination landed us with BA and AA. P did a lot of the early negotiating with travel agents this time, so possibly not as much negotiating about airlines as I would have done, but I know that triangular journeys tend to be expensive so grabbing the cheapest flight was more important.

And I don't agree with flying, and feel guilty for doing it. I know night flying is even worse for the environment than daytime flights, as well as worse for those living near airports. But family is on another continent… at least offspring are in the UK so train works for visiting them.

Joanna, I've never taken that long a flight, eeek, but one day we may as P has relatives in New Zealand. Suz, we intend to go from Oakland to Santa Barbara by train, then drive to LA. It will take all day (before 9am to after 6pm) go travel less than 400miles by train. eeek  I hope the scenery is good! We'll be spending a week or so in LA, visiting my parents and hopefully
getting in a trip to Sequoia as light relief in the middle to give all
concerned a break. I am not sure how much I'll need to do for my parents (both in their 90's) and what we will do together, apart from insisting that we will do the driving! My father still drives to fast, worrisome with reaction times slowing with age. doh

RANT RANT RANT!!!!!

BUGGER BUGGER BUGGER

I dont know who i am ranting at or why but i am .

early on in the year we aranged to visit an old freind in france ,so we made plans ,then we sort of aranged to call in on shelly in toulouse which would be nice to meet another forumite and do some foridging .

then some freinds of ours who have never been abroad sort of got invited along so we changed the plans and dates to match their available holliday dates .wich meant we would be rite in the middle of shellies exams .and not wanting to impose our freinds on her we postponed the visit to meet her .

then the friend we were visiting had to postpone because of the seriouse illness of a lifelong friend so wont be going until november wich is only what you would expect if you knew joaney .

now our freinds father has been hospitalised with terminal cancer as you can imagine she is destraught. and we have put the trip on hold as we dont know what will hapen or when .

so now we have a conundrum do we revert to the origional plan ,do we do the revised plan without them .do we chuck the lot and sod off on a late package .if we dont do anything they will both think they made us miss a holiday .do we drive down to ep's place and get waisted on illicit Hooch or shack up in a farm in the middle of nowhere with a mouse with clogs on .

joaney is upset because she wont be there .colin and julie are upset because they mixed up our plans .both of them are worried sick about their  reiatives and friends and it dosent seem to make it better that we dont blame them or wish them to do anything other than they are doing .

these things happen and thats life i just wish i could make them stop worrying about the little things like us and a few plans ,and get on with the important things they have to do whilst they can with the people they love .

HO HUM such is life

you just feel a bit useless sometines but you know there is very little you can do when life takes a turn and throws you a wobbler

wave Oh MOS I do sympathise with you. big_hug  It is so difficult trying to fit in with other people sometimes and then when things out with anybody's control happen, there  are always feelings of guilt even though you don't want your friends to feel that way. It sound like you are damned if you do go and damned if you don't. eeek

I love your attititude to it all but don't quite know how you can make your friends feel better.  Just keep telling them they made the right decision and you will survive!!!!!    I am sure it will work out somehow and the holiday you eventually have will be brilliant ( if not sober )

This was the error….make your plan…stick to it…make them fit in or if they can't…tough….I spent years trying to accommodate, family, friends, grandchildren and for what…just mix ups and headaches ….you are welcome out here little loves but I would suggest easy jet is quicker…it takes approx four days to here by car…but on the 5th October I shall be up at Sofia airport saying goodbye to a friend…so… you are welcome….and I promise to strip the beds, fresh sheet and towels..and share whatever hooch/ food is in or make my way to the offie…..kiss

Elsa that is a lovly offer but as you say 4 days each way would leave us a bit short on visiting time big_laugh

we would also find it dificult to leave ,you make it sound such a lovly place to be and the temptation to set up camp at the bottom of the garden may be too much to resist whistle

thank you my lovely perhaps next year but dont be surprised if we decide to move in next doorkisskiss

3 hours each way into Sofia unless you don't take planes….as for establishing yourself at the bottom of the garden, no way, then I'd have to put a few more clothes on and as for you moving next door, the village couldn't cope.  Next year you should be OK.  My second house will have a roof by then or you could go into my other up with the eagles…just a shepherd's cottage with beautiful views.  I hear you'rr good at fixing roofs and that does need a little love and attention.

The offer still stands for you and Mrs Mos….Sofia airport on the 5th October, arrives about lunchtime…big_hug  big_hug

I'm with Elsa on this one, make your plans, if someone else can make it work, fine, otherwise better luck next time.

Good luck with your holiday MOS!big_hug

I agree with Elsa and Michelle on this, go for your own plans!

We have planned our jaunt around hoping to see the fall colors in New England, and counted backward from there. So far one lot of friends may not be able to put us up, so I can't firm up a date with Michelle yet, and we will visit one brother and family when my niece turns 13 so there will be a teenagers sleep over birthday party while we are there doh . There is no way to get it right for everyone!
