I need a bird sound site for American birds!
And a minor rant, or rants. One of my mugs got broken by builder. I left two out in the kitchen, but they found the few I had left unpacked for my use when I got back. I can't find my dustpan or brush. (Probably somewhere in the heaps of rubble outside.)
I don't have a kitchen. Maybe the carcases of the units on the sink wall will go in before the end of the week, and maybe the builder can get the plumber in to connect the sink then. There will be no doors on any units till the very end, since they can't be made till then because it will be impossible to measure for them till then, due to uneven floor, ceiling, walls, and it isn't clear what accomodation will need to be made for this… Kitchen walls are taking forever to dry out. Plaster dust everywhere although I did protect a lot with dust sheets. I want a juicer for my apples, but can't work out if I might just be able to squeeze it in to the new kitchen or not, or into the utility room when I finally get more shelves there. (This probably belongs in the gadget addiction thread and not here.)
May need to get gas man in again, since turning the controls to hot water doesn't seem to be turning on the boiler. Turning on the central heating will, but I want hot water, not heating. I will give it a couple more hours, run off a bit more hot water and try to summon up the energy to clean something with it, and then phone. Note the assumption that it isn't working right, and the assumption that it will take more than one more visit to convince a gas man that it isn't.
Nice easy sum, 1 + 2, I should rant more often.

How about this site Barbara?
Rant away m'dear, I hope you feel better now? It must be so frustrating to come back to a kitchen that doesn't work properly. I feel for you.

Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy, and taste good with ketchup.

Oh poor you Lyn. I do hope your week gets better although it sounds like there are lots of things you cannot control. Big hugs for you.

Well that lot sucks-big-fat-hairy-goatballs!! Have some from one miserable fleabag to another
Can I ask what smoothie recipes you have? I'm allergic/intolerant of the eviiiil bananas too and have been pondering how to make healthy smoothies that still have creamy/thick texture as opposed to just that of watery fruit juice.
I hope the and duvet are helping.

Lyn, I hope things are less trying for you today? Yesterday is not something that you'd want to repeat, obviously. Poor thing.

big hugs all round to one and all who need them.
Trying to think of a smoothie thickener.I get cross as they nearly always have orange juice in them- plays havoc with the arthritis.

The OH, being nice, went shopping at lunchtime and bought me one of the few smoothies I can drink (damn things all have banana in them) AND a lovely bottle of red, them promptly left them both in his (very very hot) office and came home without – so the smoothie will probably have to be binned.
What a horrible day. And its only Monday!
I'm sorry elrohana! There is a great children's book called "Alexander, and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day". It covers all of the bad things that happens to Alexander, and in the end he goes home and goes back to bed. Days like that, I take a page out of Alexander's playbook, go home, go to bed, tomorrow will be better!
So, to sub for banana, how about papaya, or mango? Both of those help with the "bulk" that banana adds, and are high in nutrition too. If you ask one of the smoothie places, and explain you are allergic (they are more likely to help if you say allergic) they should probably be able to modify a recipe for you.
Good Luck today!

Thanks guys – today has been better, though I still have to sort out the staff fallout from yesterday.
The smoothie is an Innocent brand one, and it contains (according to their label) 4 pressed apples, 54 red and white grapes, 29 crushed cherries, 160 crushed cranberries, 90 crushed blueberries and a dash of squeezed lime.
In fact, if you look on their website, they tell you all about the 2 that don't have bananas

I can vouch for the fact that both are totally delicious, even if the kiwi one looks like Soylent Green or something equally weird!

"Alexander, and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day". Sounds like it could be a pressie for someone I know Alos, thanks for the papaya or mango suggestions. Will try that.
As for Ranting & Raving…..well the weather here is still bl**dy awful. BLARGHH! I'm spending the day home in my PJs – not going out on the freeways in pouring rain & thunderstorms. Nuh-uh.

Yesterday was like that TA. Today is raw and cold and a bit wet. Quite miserable actually.
Off to Stirling soon to get my car.

Lovely day here, blue skies, frost just melting in the shady places, and the woodburner on, nice and toasty. Going to have some leek and tattie soup I made yesterday, so no rant – mind u the day isn't over.
