Have you noticed that above my avatar, the suggestion is that 'Brightspark wilts' – that'll be Saturday night, then !big_laugh  big_laugh  big_laugh

What a hoot!  I hope you're not wilting today?

Interesting stuff about Purple Ronnie, I have a card in my kitchen that says ' I want you to know that I think you are great and although I'm a bit of a mug, if you ever need me I'll always be near to come round and give you a hug'.  My daughter gave it to me.  Bless!embarassed

I'll try that again!

Is it hot down there in sunny Wiltshire?  Or should that be Wiltingshire?

I'll try that again!

It's warmish with a lovely breeze – just right for drying the washing!

The 'wilting' is just because there is so much to do before my stall on Saturday – sometimes the sheer amount overwhelms me big_laugh  big_laugh doesn't take much though !!

TA, I read an article about Giles Andreae (creator of Purple Ronnie & Edward Monkton), and it is about depression. That may sound very uninteresting, but described by a man such as this guy, it allows some insight into this awful illness, here.

I know about depression, it is a most debilitating illness.  We often find that people known for their humour are afflicted.

I do hope that your stall does well on Saturday, try not to wear yourself out beforehand!  toffeeapple

some cheering news: suffering from depression when young seems to be linked to developing alzheimer's, or other forms of dementia, when older. Yay!

no amount of coffee will save me, it seems.

That's a very good read, BS. Thank you.

". . what a rare and beautiful treasure is the simple human gift of
joy. I
lost it so completely for a while."

Luckily, I have only ever brushed the fringes of depression, never clinical. But even that was a most hateful place to be. I have the utmost sympathy for anybody unfortunate enough to be struck down by it.

Oh yes, but I get upside too – though the manic stuff is just as bad really. But as I get older I know it better and manage it better. Had a really bad few years when it just hung around for what seemed like for ever, the upswing after was as bad: but on a more even keel now and more accepting of it and wouldn't want to be any other way- its a part of me, I just have to learn to make it a less intrusive part of me and to see it coming and have a few tricks up my sleeve to cope with it.

Good man, Mutley. Thanks for that offer. I will take you up on it.

Kate – I think you struck the nail on the head. Experience comes with age (sadly) and now I recognise the symptoms very early on and take evasive action. Gratitude is my favourite one. I stand outside the back door on a sunny morning, raise my arms to the heavens and thank the universe for the good things in my life.

That is like a switch. Just thinking about the good stuff (like 3 or 4 blessings that I am grateful for) works wonders.

Yikes – this is getting very personal. Maybe we should open  a new Depressives thread?

No. I think there must be enough forums and help sites out there already.
