The letters stopped but the visits didn't and funnily enough it tended to be when some big event was on like FA Cup or something like that, can't think why

As the TV licence people said when visiting a friend without a tv " WHY don't you have a tv?"
Didn't seem to occur to them that not everyone wants to own one!

Some time ago they used to run adverts on the local buses saying 'two people in So and So street don't have a TV licence' and once it was my road and I was one of those people but I really didn't have a TV and anyway it's not obligatory to own one is it? Makes me so mad.

We own one, and pay the licence, but almost never actually watch anything live on TV. We download the occasional programme from the iPlayer, and use the BBC website a lot, so I guess that's what we're getting for our money.

You need……a….LICENCE….for your…..TV?

wow.
I thought you guys were winding me up, so I checked.

wow.
just wow.
So that's ON TOP OF whatever you pay for cable or satelight tv charges?
That would be enough to get me to throw out my tv….

But, Michelle, speaking to my niece today (who lives in Florida), she told me that if you find yourself lucky enough to win some money on the lottery in America, you have to pay tax on it – is that right across America?
We don't here in the UK………
Swings and roundabouts; pay some here, pay some there; I suppose

I reacted with the same incredulity about the American healthcare system Michelle. I was open mouthed when one friend stated that people were really quite happy to pay twice as much as most of Europe just so someone who doesn't deserve health care won't get it. Traditionally the licence fee did mean that the BBC could then fund high quality, educational and informative TV – well traditionally that was the case

We switched to digital last April. The digi box I got then works fine. But, I only get a few channels. I can see the relay station from where I am sitting. Because it is a relay station most companies don't bother to pay the extra that they are charged to broadcast to such a "small" audience. So I have no choice, they can get away with it and with pretending that everyone gets better reception and more channels. (Well, we only had 4 before the switch over, so it is more, but not lots and lots.) I refuse to get freesat–why should I pay for a satelite dish to get TV stations who think I am not worth broadcasting to!
I am really fuming at the thought of the switch over to digital radio only, as I can get about 7 digital radio stations.

Yep, but there are ways around it, if you have some fore thought.
The best way is to create a trust and have the trust cash in the ticket. Probably for the best in the long run, more legal protection for that much money.

Hmmm, I'm curious.
Who doesn't deserve health care?
But let's not get started about health care, we'll be here till doomsday….
