wave  I have had real problems with this site today which is a very rare occurrence for me.  Everything was on a go slow and I couldn't post very much at all.  Is it just me or has everyone been experiencing difficulties?    Hopefully  it is behaving itself now.  Here goes!!!!!

I've found it really slow tonight as well, Danuta....in fact, about an hour ago it took so long loading that I gave up (patience is not one of my virtues whistlebig_laugh).

Oh blow - more observations about the site being slow.

Thanks, Danuta & Sue. If two or more of you from such diverse areas find it slow, then it must be a problem with either our web host or the software. It just narrows down the possible causes.

Also - I agree that it is difficult to compare the benefits or charges that different countries impose. Apples v Oranges really. But the state healthcare in the UK is brilliant IMO.

Perhaps France is better but the UK NHS is much maligned while doing a great job - in general. ok

Good morning Danuta,

I also experienced a lot of problems yesterday; so much so that I gave up like Sooliz but this morning something else is happening. I tried to post on 'the story in 4 words' but the yawning icon appeared without my pressing it & when I typed my reply it appeared in huge type size. As I had previously replied to the 'Musical Chairs' , which was perfectly normal, I knew it wasn't me or my laptop that was playing up.

I wonder if this will come out OK......well here goes. Afterwards I will go back to '4 words'  & have another go........Hmmmmm...!!   whistlewhistle

wave  Today is the day of our one and only Fund Raiser for the year for our Play Park.  It pays the insurance and the maintenance for the year and it is  POURING WITH RAIN!! aargh    The sky is dull and although it is supposed to clear up later, it does not look like it now.  yell   I suppose it is even more upsetting because we have had such good weather recently.  I just have to hope that folks come out anyway.  We do have a big marquee but it will not take everything.

Wish us luck, please.  ok

I wish you luck Danuta, it is so frustrating when the weather is uncooperative. I just wanted to say that I find the forum incredibly slow to load. The only way to do it is to open a new window and keep checking back to see if the site has loaded. My knowledge of computers is limited to clicking on icons, but I did observe that the forum became slower to load after Danny installed some upgrades. I hope my small input from across the pond is of some use to you.

Fingers crossed that the afternoon weather will be far better, Danuta.

Thank you for that observation, bluenose. All grist to the mill.

The annoying aspect is that it zips along for me no problem, which makes it far more difficult to diagnose the root cause.

I do hope that it has dried up for you Danuta and that you made lots of money.

I'll try that again!

I want to rant at Tesco today.

IMO the UK population, or a majority of it, has a love/hate relationship with the supermarket giant. I am no exception.

They may have good points such as low prices, keeping our other local supermarkets in check and a good CFC.

But they seem to be able to bully their way to overcome planning objections for new stores. In Newmarket, Tesco have won approval from the local council for a hyper-store to replace the pretty big one we have at present.

Now this will be the same size as their store in Ipswich (pop 117,000). Newmarket's population is 15,000. The council claim that it will attract shoppers from a wider catchment area, which may be true. But those shoppers are not going to visit Newmarket independent retailers are they? Not when the Tesco store is a mile from the town centre, just off the busy A14 and A11.

I really feel sorry for the local retailers. TKMaxx has already piut several out of business. This is another major blow and there is no genuinely logical argument in favour of the council's decision.

One's mind inevitably turns to the dark machinations that may have swayed the council's decision makers. I had better remain stum about people's suspicions.

Is there no way to stop Tesco from getting their way at every turn?

There is no stopping them, they are trying to get permission to turn our small one at Wolverton into a darn great big one for no good reason that I can see.  Mind you, I'm biased because I prefer to shop in Stony Stratford at the independent shops.

I'll try that again!
