wave  Hi Nigel.  I am sorry I don't have any real suggestions for you as I don't know any places in your vicinity or indeed down south at all, but I do know how good you are with Jade and I think you spending time with her is the most important thing.  You have taught her about the outdoors and she shares your love of camping etc.  I love the idea of you two building natural shelters and sleeping out.  Simple activities are often the best and most fun. And they don't have to cost the earth.  big_hug

The C.A.T is near Machynlleth (website). I've seen the place on TV and it does look interesting. I kept meaning to visit back when I lived in Aberystwyth but somehow never got around to going. Entrance was always cheaper if you arrived by environmentally friendly means (which I think included walking, cycling and possibly public transport). Don't know if they still do that, couldn't see it on the website.
