Had my morning constitutional. Yes it is cold out there, but not as much as it looks and I was in layers so was pretty warm. There is though a piercing North East wind and had I been less kitted out no doubt it would have cut through. The shops are all open, the main roads are clear, however the footpaths are very icy and slippery so walking, with care, on the road seems (up here at least) to be the safer option. It is cloudy with odd bits of blue but maybe we get some more of the dreaded white stuff later, we'll see.

I might have the body of a decrepid old man but my mind is as sharp as a boulder

No more snow has fallen in North Bucks but that breeze is very lazy, it just won't go around you.

Kaye, you surely won't go to work if the snow doesn't let up, will you?

I'll try that again!

I've never been in that kind of situation Kaye, can't quite understand why you won't get paid if you don't go to work – can't you use a day from your holiday allowance?  That's what I used to do.

I'll try that again!

Technically im self employed , because they cant get health insurance for me, so no holiday entitlements . I was full time but i had a major health wobble back in 2001 and they had to finish me because we got private healthcare and a multitude of other benefits and the occupational health doctor said i would never work again , im still part time which lets me work around the odd bad day , for the most part im full time and more when were busy its 6 12 hour days a week , plus this lets me work for other companies , i do a lot of holiday and sick cover because im classed as senior staff and i dont turn my nose up at the crap jobs that the big boys see as beneath them , though i wont travel like i used to i stay within 70 miles of home …

And in case your wondering (this is the point where i usually get ejected from most forums and chatrooms ) i work for the Darkside im a court warrant officer ..lol

I had to look that job up…it's obviously one that needs to be done so I don't think there will be any ejecting going on around here.  So, I think I understand why your boss feels you should be there tomorrow.  But as you said, better to stay alive than get a day's pay.

I'll try that again!

Just watched Edwardian Farm, and the fisherman was explaining about the tide and when not to go out  - and he said the same thing, TA – it is better to be a starving fisherman than a dead one!

Worrying times – this weather !

Son is in Havana, Cuba atm, and due in to Gatwick tomorrow morning – Gatwick was closed today and having checked with the Virgin website, it'll be closed tomorrow, too.  They are hoping that all incoming flights will be operating, but of course, not into Gatwick!!!

Received a text from son, who said that so far they have a 5-hour delay, and they must take on their own food for the journey. I think this is due to the fact that while watching the progress on their website, today's flight came in to Heathrow, so I presume they were unable to re-stock the plane from their regular supplier.

I'll light a candle for him, and hope it all turns out okay.

waveall!

It is bloody cold here – the wind is really powering down the river valley…cold, cold, cold. But NO SNOW. Yes folks, NO SNOW.tongue

We had a light icing sugar dusting on Sunday, which swiftly melted and another similar on Monday. Tuesday was positively warm and crept above freezing so the frost melted.

Today just a horrible penetrating NE wind.

No snow.

After last winter, unable to get out of our road for days on end ( twice), this is quite a relief! But I'm sure we will get some eventually….I have lots of porridge, so I'm ready.big_laugh
