It has got more and more absurd with every election- this time something might just have to be done about it, or there may indeed be riots. It will be interesting to see how things develop.

I have not yet tuned in to the media reporting but I did notice that at our little village polling station, I could see by the number of crossed-off  names on the list held by the "official" that turnout looks to be very high. That in itself is good. No matter what the outcome, the people will have delivered their verdict.

the closing of polling station doors in people's faces is also a little concerning.

perhaps legal challenges to closely run seats, if substantial numbers were turned away.

doesn't seem much like democracy, does it?

Sir was really shocked about the closing doors while voters were waiting- he used to  man Polling Stations and says they should stay open as it is the Polling Station not having enough staff that causes delays, not the voters coming too late, they can stop the queue at 10, but the voting goes on until everyone queueing before 10 has voted. I'm shocked too, appalling!

I did not know that.

Kate, like you say, absolutely appalling.

Can you imagine the reaction here in the UK if we heard reports like that from Mugabe's Zimbabwe?

The press would have field day. The foreign media probably will.

Disgraceful.

Quite.

My daughter 'found' a 'polling station' sign after the London Mayoral Election and we were just speculating what she might bring back this time. Being a General Election and therefore more important, we wondered if she might return with the booths ( and pencils) , the lady sitting outside with a clipboard, her chair and her rossette, or perhaps all the staff AND the ballot box....
