Don't worry TA,

I intend to do my smoking outside in the garden, I wouldn't think of trying that indoors....far too smelly, let alone dangerous in a wychert house.   big_laugh

I know you'll be sensible, but I admit that the thought of the wychert going up in smoke was mortifying!

I'll try that again!

In another thread I announced I have bought a semi-professional smoker.

I have now just found this

Apparently it will gently produce smoke for up 10 hours

It does cost £35 though but looks like it will do the job nicely.

Intriguing, Simon. I watched the "how to" video.

What next, he asks?

Same old story though of keeping the sawdust alight/smoking. Got a small tray sitting over three night lights and this seems to be doing the trick.

I shall get an order in for the proper burner.

OK Seems to be slowly working ok I've ordered the smoke burner/generator.

OH I forget to mention... Some assembly required doh

Its well made though and very well packaged. Even the glass front came in its own card and bubble wrap packaging inside the main box.  welldone

Here you go folks, my new smoker in action Cheese in the top, salt in the middle and trout below...

Image Enlarger

Did have a slight panic. surprised Moved the holder containing the tea lights and sawdust and caused the wax to spill turning the smoker into an incinerator.  Sorted it very quickly and reloaded with new tea lights and sawdust... ok

I have just packaged up all the smoked  contents.  ok

Managed to keep the smoke going and have taste tested the produce. I am very happy with my first results. It got a little hotter than I would like but that wasn't detrimental at all. smile

The trout is very tasty, gently smoke flavour and slightly cooked, not salty at all seeing as though I cured it first. chef

The cheese lost a bit of its oil so has a slight processed texture, nice though. ponder

The salt only picked up a light smoking. roll_eyes

It'll be a lot better when the smoke burner comes. magic

All in all a very good first result smug

Hi Simon SmugRat,

Sounds as if you are having oodles of fun with your new toy & getting delicious results already. Great to know it's working well & looking forward to hearing about the next batch.  wave
