My Mother celebrated her 89th birthday recently, and she has been an avid knitter for as long as I can remember, and for the last 30 years or more, making blankets from knitted squares for charity.

I thought this Jane Asher-inspired cake was ideal for her!

Very well done Val!  I bet she loved that.  I see you have your 'posterous' back.

I'll try that again!

Thanks, girls - yes she was chuffed with it - though had forgotten it by the next day!! Such is life!

Yes, TA, I spent about an hour trying to find out 'how to' - it is so different to how it used to be, and I felt I had to 'second-guess' what I was meant to do. I'll probably have to try to remember how I managed it for next time!! doh

seems a good thread for me to talk to you all about my efforts over the next 2 weeks  - marzipanning and icing my friend's wedding cake. She dropped off the cakes yesterday, we've talked through and idea, she wants a quite simple design in ivory and 'neals yard' blue.

3 tier stacked cake (not with columns) need to get on with the marzipaning, as that then needs to rest for 4-5 days, I'm out tomorrow night so means I need to get on with it on wednesday night...crumbs, feel a bit nervous now.
