Can anyone tell me how much a stick of butter weighs?

(Yes I know it depends on size of stick)   Finding a few decent American recipes these days all using sticks of butter.

Apparently, a stick of butter is 4ozs - a pound of butter is divided into 4 sticks ....

I have used this amount in a recipe before, and it seems right!

Tracey, as stick of butter as sold in USA looks like one of our 8oz packs cut in half horizontally like this one.

I'll try that again!

Tracey here is a site I use when converting US recipes to metric (although it doesn't have the sticks of butter info).

Thanks all.  Will go with the 4 oz or 100g and tweak as necessary  chef

Try this out.

Still doesn't help with sticks of butter, but useful otherwise since it does the calculation for you and takes the actual ingredient into consideration when converting between cups and weights.

Never assume anything - except an occasional air of intelligence.
