There is a PYO near me and am thinking if I can get a lift to it I will do a sauces (lots and lots) for Ice Cream or to put on............any ideas? Want to go to this PYO as I am unable to bend my knee properly at the moment and there in raised beds ie at waist height. Give me something to do untill I am better. PS when will the strawberry season end.......given the present weather. I live on the Lincolnshire Wolds.  Thanks JB

I just boil up the strawberries and I shall freeze that. I have also dried quite a few but then again I haven't had much time to do much else with them.cheers

what a good idea, raised beds for PYO, shame there's none around here, I could take all my old ladies, they'd love it.

presumably you make strawberry sauce in a similar way to strawberry jam, but with less sugar?

I made a fantastic blackcurrant and strawberry cordial with black pepper that was approved of by a couple of American teenagers and my hubby. No mean feat!

Recipe was

1lb of blackcurrants

1lb of strawberries

12oz of sugar

2 tsps of black pepper.

Layered in a steamer and steamed for one hour then siphoned off into hot sterilsed jars

Hi Jo, that recipe looks good....I would enjoy that as I always put pepper on my strawberries. I must give it a try.  Thanks  wave

I was surprised that hubby and the girls liked it as we found that many foods, even the bread, in America tasted too sweet and so he doesn't do sweet but loved the taste of this.

I make strawberry sauce to have with Greek yogurt for my breakfast sometimes.....it's a really complicated recipe......I just bung the strawberries (the little wild ones from our garden) in a bowl in the microwave for a couple of minutes! laugh

Joanna - I have asked F to do this cordial.

Hope she does it and posts the recipe on her blog (with full credits for you).

Thanks.
