The German deli site does indeed have the vanilla sugar (or, Dr.Oetker Bourbon-Vanillezucker), but they don't give a quantity in each sachet doh - and there are only 3 sachets for £1.60, not 10, Eileen, unless you have found a different source on the site confused !

Another thought is vanilla paste instead of vanilla sugar or essence - but I think Iris that you needed the quantity of sugar, didn't you?

I agree with Jean (Gottaknit) - the sachets are not unlike the dried yeast sachets, very small amounts.

the packets of vanillinzucker do not have the weight on them but are defininetly 10 sachets per pack. they are about the size of a yeast pack i used them when living in germany.  On the site go to product overview, baking, cake baking they are the first item  on the page , if you click the more info it tells you 10 sachets.

I have used the site a lot and if you are ever in london they have a stall on borough market

One sachet of Dr. Oetker Vanilla Sugar is equivalent to 1 - 2 tsp of vanilla extract and you do not need to add any extra sugar to your recipie.

I have been using the sachets of Vanilla Sugar all my baking life.

Such a shame I hadn't seen this site before or I would have answered when you needed to know smile

I buy Vanilla Pods from Amazon, very cheap, well, they were last time I bought them, as they last me for ages. Put a Pod in a Jar of Castor Sugar, and you always have a supply to hand.
