Can folk give me tried and tested cherry recipes please? I want to prove to my neighbours that there is more to do with them than runny jam.

I should have added that I have only basic ingredients here. All the wine recipes I surfed require specialised wine yeasts and I only have bread yeast.

What about drying them? They could then be used for all sorts of things such as cakes or in breakfast cereal - mind you just thinking about it that is an awful lot of destoning to do without the aid of a destoner. How about this here for a list Cheers

It was drink recipes I was after. Baking recipes are not a problem, I have that sorted.I am thinking of getting a dehydrator as we have lots of chantrelle and morel mushrooms when in season.

The same goes for gin and for brandy.....my mate has used bread yeast for starting off our cherry wine.  About five kilos of mashed cherries to 10 litres of water and they should have enough sugar to start the fermentation on their own.  Fit an airlock or cotton wool into the '10 litre water bottle'.... you should have some of those and away you go.  It should be ready in about  6 weeks so I'm told...strain and serve....no not youSteamSteam, you decant it into something smaller than the 10 litre bottle first...dohhhBig_Laugh

Sandy - how about cherry liqueur

"Cigliegiolo"

  http://italianfood.about.com/od/aperitifscoffee/r/.....lr0487.htm

or, perhaps a cherry cordial - sorry I don't have a recipe, just thought it would be a nice drink!

Depends how fit you're feeling light of my life....in my state of health after taking the rotavaor for a spin it would have to be 10 x 1ltr.  Or nine if I'm thirstyBig_LaughCheers.

He's me trying desparately to offer good advice, considering health and safety, taking into account risk assessment and what do I get...abuse all the way.... and don't I just love itWhistleWhistle

Thanks, TA - in fact when I clicked on that link, I see there is a recipe further down the page for cherry syrup, which would be good as a cordial, wouldn't it?
