Did once try to make marrow rum by hanging one in a net and filled with sugar to ferment- it went mouldy and fell apart, so no help there I am afraid.

Are we having fun yet? I am!

Not heard of making marrow rum in this way.  I do remember a friend's father hollowing out a marrow and adding rum/sugar (not sure as I'm going back 50 odd years) then replacing the "lid".  He hung the marrow and contents up in string shopping bag in the bathroom to ferment only to find one day that the marrow had exploded and the flesh and contents were plastered all around the room. Good luck!!

Hi Irist and Digger, I have made it once or twice it has never exploded on me yet but can be rather sweet.

I used the same method as your friends father but if you hang it in a stocking and make a small hole in the base of the marrow after a week or so and let it drip into a demi john and let it ferment as a wine it is quite safe. Also I believe that Fiona has a marrow rum recipe somewhere on the site cheers

I have gone through the main ways of making Marrow Rum, but I can not keep at room temperature owing to the fact the barrel will have to stay in the summer house on its Owen in the closed session so I was hopping to make a Batch in the same way as Wine fitting Ari lock till fermentation over transfer with a filter to clean container'saargh

I have made marrow rum for the past few years but again by hollowing out the inside and adding the sugar, yeast and orange juice aka the recipe on Fiona's site. However once it starts to drip (I do put mine over a bucket just in case) I then add the flesh contents to a demi-john with more sugar, yeast and orange juice and leave until it stops fermenting, then syphon it off and leave it for a year what_the_heckwhat_the_heckwhat_the_heck Some years are better than others and it definitely helps to have a very big marrow.cheers Here's the link to Fiona's recipe

Aww that's a shame. The way to post a link is to highlight some text and then find the chain icon. That gives you a box where you can then post a URL. Hope that helps!cheers
