hoorah, I've just been out in our back field looking for blackberries - got 20 oz. and found some sloes (got 8 oz) but now find it is better they are frosted so will pop them in the freezer and try and get some more another day.

any other ideas for them as were not really into drinking spirits very often.

You should always have a bottle of sloe gin in your cupboard for visitors.  Where did you say you live?wink

I'll try that again!

I spose you could put some into a mixed hedgerow fruit jelly. I'd guess theyed give some flavour , and also be a good setting agent.

I've seen recipes that say that for elderberriescan be used for a mixed fruit jelly, but my personal view is that the only proper use of elderberries is to make wine, and the only proper use of sloes is to make cheap spirits into an excellent liqueur.

Hi FN

Would like to resurrect discussions on fermenting Sloes, treating like grapes for red wine, fermenting on their skins, then pressing and adding the gin. How did your efforts go with your trial? My results three years on are spectacular but it does take time.
