Hello everyone,

I have just joined this forum and am starting by asking for help!!

We have just moved to Argyll and Bute (Minard) and I really would love to know if anyone has any idea where I can go and pick some sloes?

Also are there any other people in this area..We have not really met many people and would love to get to know some other people who like to cook, eat and drink!! (Not to excess I might add!!!)

We will be grateful for any information...

One of our senior members is in that general area but I have no idea where you are in relation.  Fingers crossed that you get a response soon.  The best thing would be to take walks in your area in spring, to identify the blossoms and make a note of where you see them.  People tend to be a little wary of telling where they pick berries...

Welcome to the forum though! wave

I'll try that again!

Hi Nina

Welcome to the forum

unfortunately the easiest way to identify blackthorn (sloe bushes) is to watch out for the flowers on the bushes in springtime while you're out walking. Otherwise it's just luck you coming across them, many people guard their sources closely.

Can't really help you on the other question, sorry

wave Hi Nina. Welcome!   I guess I am the "senior member"  TA was referring to.   big_laugh   I live not too far away from you in Colintraive on the Kyles of Bute.  I used to live on the other side of Loch Fyne from you.  Minard is a lovely place to live and I hope you will be very happy there.  Don't know of anyone who tells where the sloe bushes are though.  smile
