Su, just had a quick look at your blog, and love your textile art.

I have, in the main, been into knitting and crochet mostly, as my mother used to be the one who was the competent stitcher in the family - not so much now, as she is 89 !

Recently I discovered the beautiful stitchery that's around on the internet - our own Joanna in Latvia does some lovely work, too. Very inspiring.

A few years ago I was given some silk tops, (it was intended to be used in making my own paper, but I thought they were too nice for that!) and seeing some of your work makes me want to start work - right now !! (Not sure what I can do with them, but maybe I'll think of something!)

I am currently making a fabric art journal for a young woman who has shown remarkable courage along the road of illnesses, and is now planning to run in the Race for Life, in Cambridge this summer, supporting cancer research. This race is for women only, I believe, so I'm making a pink journal for her. She doesn't know yet, but your work along with others is helping me to get inspired.

Hi all

Fiona didn't send me, I could see from my blog stats that I had lots of hits from the forum address so I came over to check out what was going on!  Then it took a while for me to relocate my password (actually Danny had to reset it for me!).

Hattie - thankyou so much for sharing my work. I start lots but finish very few - I'm rather too self critical!  But I have grown in confidence since I've put some of them on my blog and people have said nice things!

You wanted to see more - here's one of the first pieces I actually finished and hung on the wall, it's a mixture of needle felting and embroidery.  http://su-livingontheedge.blogspot.co.uk/2011/01/b.....ngs.html

Don't know what happened to your link Su but try this link

and a preview

I did something similar but with fabric and just using the sewing machine.

I love the embroidery on yours though.

Thanks BS. This is what I'm working on at the moment

Image Enlarger

Image EnlargerIt is incorporating pieces of embroidery and tatting from my grandmothers and a little bit from when I started embroidering. It is a memory cloth for my mother.cheers

Thanks Joanna - I'm not sure what's happened with the link either, I'll try again (just to prove to myself I can do it!) http://su-livingontheedge.blogspot.co.uk/2011/01/b.....hings.html

Your work is lovely by the way, I've not heard of a memory cloth before, but it's such a lovely idea.

Lovely Joanna, as usual smile , I only wish I had your patience ........ some of that looks like a lot of work - I'm actually quite envious!

"Must try harder" - I was always being told that at school ! big_laugh

I does help that I am using ready embroidered pieces, I just add stitches to anchor to the cloth and blend it in. Karen Ruane inspired me to get started again with her cloths.

That link works now Su, I think you've got the hang of it cheers

I love this idea of combining recipes with applique/ embroidery. I think something like this could make stunning blinds in a kitchen.

If you click on the photo you can enlarge it to see the detail¦.it is beautiful.

Of course being me I also love this page.

I love combining embroidery and appliqué too, most of my work is that kind of thing. I have plans for two panels for my living room at our other apartment to cover some uneven curtains - they needed to be different heights because it was a door with a window and a radiator underneath.

Have you ever come across the magazine Quilting Arts? I bought it for two years whilst in America and it was well worth it. They had some fantastic projects, I also subscribe to their emails and would love to start getting the magazine again but just not got around to it and not sure I can justify the expense.roll_eyes Still got the old magazines though and I might just dig them out to give me some inspiration.

Yes Joanna I have come across the magazine, a few years ago in the USA.  I used to pick my copies there. Good to know it is still going.

You might enjoy looking at this site. I have just picked out one persons work but there are many more on there. I love her birds.

I have so much fabric & bits & pieces I really should stop hoarding them & start using them in projects. I have set myself a few ideas to get down this summer so we will see if I can manage those. They are things I can do outside if the weather if fine. It might even make me clear out my workshop......Ha-ha.....that is a summer-long task in itself  eeek   big_laugh
