Hi, a quick update on the allotment.  I went down last week and was pleased to discover a pond on the plot - hidden by overgrown bushes and grass but there, complete with resident frog.  I contacted the council for them to strim the site and remove the rubble (a free service they offer to new plot holders).  We went up this morning and they had been in the week - strimmed the site, and removed the pond (grrr).  However they left the big pile of bricks, plastic and dead things....how exactly they interpreted 'rubble removal' is a bit of a mystery...

I am gutted about the pond having been removed but figured as the hole remains I will just replace it with a new one...I am guessing my approach for the couch grass remains to spray roundup, cover with plastic and dig over each section and discard roots as and when I can.

Indeedy...got one bit cleared and planted with potatoes.  As I was clearing the second patch (for caulis) the spade snapped...they really don't make them like they used to...

I will be back up there this long weekend to try and clear 3 more beds to get the winter greens in.  Hard work but enjoyable as well - at least progress is measurable...
