I have a serious infestation in my - clean with no fruit hanging around or rotting - kitchen. They have been all over the walls etc any ideas about how to get rid of them without spraying fly spray. Its quite bad and don't understand why they are indoors.

What about house plants?

Maybe some are sitting in water??? If so, put them outside while the weather is warm (not in the sun, of course)

Hi Cheryl - I missed your earlier posts somehow, so a belated Welcome On Board.

Bummer about your Fibro and ME. Fiona finds gardening a great distraction too. Short bursts with plenty of rests in between, although her condition has been diagnosed as post viral syndrome and not full-fledged ME. Not a great deal of difference from what I can see.

Back to fruit flies. The Bright Sparkly one is right - it does not have to be fruit that is the cause. I was stunned to find a minor infestation in our bathroom last week. I traced them to the amaryllis plant that lives there. They were breeding and living in the base of the plant.

Sometimes the little compost bin in our kitchen becomes a breeding ground after a few days. We just put it outside the back door, leave the door open for a few hours, and the fruit flies go away.

On a lighter note - I love this old one:

Time flies like an arrow

Fruit flies like a banana

sorry

Never knowingly underfed

I like this one:

Kindness in words creates confidence.

Kindness in thinking creates profoundness.

Kindness in giving creates love.

I was trying to think of that little joke when I saw the title of the post, thanks for remembering, D!

Oh, where has the 'hug' emoticon gone?  There's only the 'smooch' one there...

I'll try that again!

Thankyou Danny for the welcome. Great name two of brothers were called Danny. Long story about that sure you don't want to know. As for the advice off to the kitchen to sort out the plants there and down the bottom of the house.

Thanks

Cheryl

Sorry, Cheryl - very remiss of me - WELCOME to the forum.

I have a friend in Devon, also named Cheryl, from our schooldays, which was a very long time ago big_laugh .

Yet it is quite an unusual name, too.

Some proverbs really 'hit the nail on the head', don't they?

We need a 'wistful' emoticon. I'm off to find one!

In my search, Cheryl, I found this one  [Image Can Not Be Found]

Yet again, after posting, it has disappeared - hope you can see it, though !roll_eyes
