It is so lovely to see these harbingers of Spring. My overwintering Broad Beans are coming on a treat in the Greenhouse, going to plant my early Lettuce soon, just noticed a lone Calendula flowering in the Garden, lovely splash of Orange.

We have snowdrops out and a few aconites,  been out in poly tunnel this weekend and planted Red Baron onion sets in modules and also some allium bulbs that need getting in, holding off on seeds for a while longer even though I'm itching to get tomatoes going.

In future, I might be able to take part in this thread as, today, I engaged a gardener to revive my small patch of earth.  Feeling pretty smug.   He is young and has a small baby (wife too, I think, though not necessarily small) so he might stay around unlike the one who was going to come every month until he retired to Devon then sent all his clients a postcard.

I'll try that again!

We have Vinca Minor (periwinkle) flowering now and the winter jasmine is putting forth its yellow flowers, looks like the ornamental quice is also about to flower. I hope they all have not been fookled by the relatively mild weather so far.

Are we having fun yet? I am!

I like Martin's word - fookled - I shall work on the exact meaning of it over the next week, it holds promise.

Tina, the only plan I have at present is to have the ground cleared and some awful old plants removed such as the Philadelphus that took seven years to flower and gives off no scent at all and the Honeysuckle of a similar nature.  The latter keeps seeding itself wherever it drops berries.  I should like to have more than white flowers, get rid of the blasted Feverfew and the Violets (thugs, every last one) and I should like to attract more insects.  I have some lovely micro moths that seem to come back every year, some Mining Bees and Cardinal Beetles, all of which I love but I need more Honey and Bumble bees.  I also want perfume and climbing plants.  So, no plans really...whistle

I'll try that again!

Planted out 24 cabbage and 29 cauliflower plants yesterday. French climbing beans went in this morning and two rows of beetroot sown along next winters leeks.

This afternoon I shall be sowing large leaf spinach.

Spring is definitely in the air here.

If I agree with you, then we would both be wrong.

I've got crocuses in bud in pots, which is nice.  Husband has started sowing veg seeds in pots and trays on the windowsill and in the utility room......optimistic of him!

learning to love veg…..except celery :-O

And we're still under 2 feet of snow - see my blog for photos. Another snow storm forecast for tonight and tomorrow.

Home is where the heart is.
