Mmm - sounds good. We're raspberried-out every morning with our porridge at the moment. The best ones we have them with a little bit of sugar to extract some juice, and the rest is jamming. I have just brought them to the boil, and I have three litres of fruit'n'juice. Better get some jars in the oven ..... smells really good in the kitchen!

wave The poly tunnel is amazing. It is like a jungle in there.  Over the three beds my friend and I have, we are growing lettuces, rocket, pak choi, kohl rabi, tomatoes, cucumber, courgettes,  peas, broad beans, runner beans, sweet corn, bulb fennel, aubergines, peppers, chillis, strawberries, beetroot and I have a cape gooseberry plant.   I go down every morning and I just love it!  smile

Cape Gooseberry, how wonderful, I love their fruit.  I guess that the Stock has stopped flowering and perfuming?  That was marvellous, wasn't it?

I'll try that again!

My neighbour buys the local jam of blackberry jelly - the family love it - and she has given me a collection of these jars - they're in the style of Bonne Maman jars, with a wide neck. Perfick!!  laugh

As we had a loose tile on our roof, OH went up the ladder to replace it, and discovered something amazing.

About twenty years ago, and in the September, while staying in an old Mill House in the South of France, my Bro and I noticed some scarlet 'seeds' on the ground - the size of baked beans(!). Then we saw the 'cones' that contained these seeds. Huge, they were. I collected some from the ground and put into a small Tupperware pot, and took them home and duly planted them.

Lots of them took, and we had a lot of plants, although I didn't know what they were.doh

So I wrote to the owner of the Mill House, and asked him. He told me that the tree in question was in fact a magnolia. It was unlike magnolias in the UK, so I wasn't too sure if he had recognised which tree I was describing.

One of the plants, my Bro had planted in his garden, and two years ago sent me a photo of a bloom - it was dinner-plate size, with very large waxy petals. See similar here.

Yesterday, when going up the ladder, OH said there was a heavy scent, and when he looked around, we have several flowers on ours, and they are huge too, with more to come, too. Unfortunately, they are at the top of the tree, so not easily visible, but the tree now is about 20ft high. They are almost tropical to look at.

Picked my first three strawberries of the season today, more to come, but plants only in the ground this year after being in a trough last year, not expecting much this time. They are putting out runners, so more plants to come.

Are we having fun yet? I am!

The Sun came out for half an Hour, and in that short time managed to get quite a bit done, back to heavy black Clouds, and very warm. Do you want more Strawberry Plants, Hannah? Am just clipping the Runners off mine, don't need any more.
