We have been trimming our English yew hedges over the past few days and noticed a lot of these insects in the branches?

I know that we had an explosion of them this year but does anybody know why they are attracted to yew?

Never knowingly underfed

Don't know about Yew but I was pruning my Rosemary bushes last week and noticed a lot of Ladybirds on the branches.  Fortunately I noticed them before I put the branches in the recycling bin.

I'll try that again!

Yew makes a dense, windproof, evergreen hedge- good place to hibernate en masse perhaps, as ladybirds like to huddle together for warmth.

Kateuk makes things at and sometimes she does this too and also this

Yes our yew hedges are a haven for wildlife. We have pigeons nesting permanently in some. However, we had to cut them ourselves this year and they were a nightmare as we had to even off the tops - this meant sawing through some trunks as thick as my arms.
