I'm making another attempt at the fasting diet, soulds like the one you are doing Aly, do you eat all your 500 cals in just one meal on your fasting days?....can you tell Ive not read the book yet.
Am going to Ireland again in just over a week and I want that to be the kickstart to it, been menu browsing and setting a plan for the 4 days we are there.

I fast all day and just have an evening meal of no more than 500cals. I do feel hungry at times but it is manageable. This is the first fast of my second week and has been surprisingly easy considering I have family staying who eat loads!i_am_hungry

At the risk of upsetting some very dear friends I can report I am today wearing my size 10 jeans again! I love this 5:2 plan!

Well done Aly......I hate you but well done yellbig_laughbig_hug

My low-carb diet has gone out of the window....I've just been so busy this week that sticking to a diet has been the last thing on my mind. I've always found that when dieting, in order to stick to it I have to give it my undivided attention. Life has just got in the way this week.

learning to love veg…..except celery :-O

Well done Aly- I may have to resume in a small way as although my weight has stayed the same I notice my stomach has grown- must be fat replacing lean muscle. I still have room within the waistband of my trousers, so it is not that bad, but I don't want it to get any worse. Eating sweet stuff, like we have today, won't help though!

It is why I love 5:2 I only have to think about it twice a week! I have found I have naturally reduced what I eat the other 5 days and no longer want chocolate or crisps. Most of the time I just have my three meals each day. Fasting has helped me get out of the snacking habit.

I'm back on the wagon again, too. The odd thing was that I weighed no more than six months ago but looked and felt a stone heavier. The answer for me (and that's the thing, isn't it, finding what suits us?) is to go back to the Happy Herbivore recipes. They are low fat vegan with gluten free alternatives so that works exactly with my restrictions. After a few days I noticed three things; the cravings for sugar and crisps had gone, my weight was down a little and the bloated feeling had gone - and I'd run out of spinach. Reading the rest of this thread I can't help that think that less simple carbs and more veg is a large part of the answer. Now, if only I can stick with it and refuse the macaroons my friend always presses on me at Cornish class... confused

Never assume anything - except an occasional air of intelligence.

I saw this on a sign recently

"I keep losing weight

Then it finds me again"

which I thought was apt.

That definitely worked for me, Ruthie. If you categorise pints of Guinness as simple carbs! big_laugh

No, seriously, I now get most of my carbs from spinach and broc. I can have bacon and eggs for breakfast with a good helping of spinach instead of toast or bread. Maybe not everybody's cup of tea but I love veggies.

Likewise, for main meal I can have steak, for example, with steamed broc or cauli or a mixture.I will have brown rice with a dal but no white rice or pasta.

Of course I do have bread and spuds maybe twice a week. Like roast potatoes with Sunday roast and a fresh baguette with my weekend fry-up. And a good big KFC (double fries) once a fortnight! i_am_hungry

I don't diet anymore, I just make everything from scratch and never have ready made processed foods. I no longer make normal cakes unless trying a recipe for someone. If I make cakes for home use I always use a wartime recipe that has virtually no fat and sugar in it.

Eileen, I am so happy to see you here again.  I made your Scotch broth recently and enjoyed it enormously, thank you.

I'll try that again!

I think I shall too.  I really enjoyed the addition of the Cavollo Nero.  I have several leaves of it in water in my kitchen.  Thanks Eileen. big_hug

I'll try that again!
