There is no skill in collecting birch sap, just tap it and you will be inundated with the stuff. Link here to our attempt, if you scroll down you can see my hubby adding wax to a tube to seal the hole. To do it he drilled a hole in the tree, inserted the tube and ran it down into a 5 litre container " overnight it was virtually full. The locals drill a hole and insert a twig so that the juice runs down it and into a bucket.cheers

Nearly forgot! Birch tapping starts when the weather starts to warm up but before the leaves come out - the juice gets bitter then.
