This forum is quite a learning curve is some respects, certainly for me when it comes to common abbreviations.

These are the ones I have collected so far. Please feel free to add new ones.

It's strange or funny because I work in IT where we adore our TLAs (Three Letter Abbreviations).

CFC = Condemned Food Counter – our affectionate term for supermarket discounted items counters

OH = other half

DH = dear husband

DD = dear daughter

DS = dear son

PB = posh boy (me and SOL's OH Laugh )

S.O.L. = Slice Of Life

TG = thank God

IMO = in my opinion

BTW = by the way

AFAIK = as far as I know

BS = Bright Spark (the atriste formerly known as brightsprite)

TA = Toffeeapple

*? = people from Devon LaughPint

OK, the last three above  are (a bit) jokey!

RTFM – read  the flippin manual (from Bobquail)

JFGI:  Just flippin google it (from Ruth)

IIRC – If I remember correctly (from Toffeeapple)

IMHO – in my humble opinion (which is rarely humble if you ask me) ( Joanna)
LOL – laugh our loud ( from Joanna)
ROFL – roll on the floor laughing Cheers (from Joanna)

. . and these (dubious) offerings from BS (Bright Spark):
AICMFP – And I Claim My Five Pounds
EVOO – Extra Virgin Olive Oil
ITIWTB – It's time I went to bed

SAHM - Stay at home mum/mom

Never knowingly underfed

Ah,

ACRONYM - Abbreviated Coded Rendition Of Name Yielding Meaning

What about ASBO - should that be brought into our vocab?

Perhaps we can invent some ......... ?

Not sure if this is the right place to ask the question:

Why does my password sometimes not 'connect' - i.e. when typing in the password, a menu appears "Do you want this password saved?"

"Yes" you say, and the next time you sign on - no password ......    Steam

Dear Bright Spark,

We (the Royal we) have amended the glossary of abbreviations / terms. See my inital post above, third from bottom.

Sadly, the term ASBO is understood by most everybody these days, even Daily Mail readers. So no need to add it to the list.

Yours sincerely,

The Editor (Ed to you!)

There's the old favourite RTFM (read the flippin manual) - I guess the modern version should be ATFG (ask the flippin google).

Visit my blog for food, drink, photography and hamsters.

Erm, Ed,

In our list of TLA's - I think one of Bobquail's doesn't quite work - have you left out his word "read"?

Hmm? RunAway

And, may I ask, why my SLA (six-letter abbreviation) is 'dubious'?  Woss rong wiv it? Frown
