Has anyone tried banana jam - it has never crossed my mind, as usually ripe bananas become cake in this house!

Saw this recipe, and Tisa seems to think it's something we should make!

"How do you spell 'Love'?" (Piglet).

"You don't spell it, you feel it" (Pooh).

'A hug,' said Pooh 'is always the right size!'

I don't think I could be bothered with all that.

I'll try that again!

Not for me, as unfortunately I hate cooked banana, I only like them raw & not overly ripe. The thought of adding sugar to them makes me feel very queasy.......urgh !! roll_eyes

It is rather a strange thought .. ponder

"How do you spell 'Love'?" (Piglet).

"You don't spell it, you feel it" (Pooh).

I don't mind Toffee Bananas because there is usually very little of those.

I'll try that again!

Oddly enough I had someone ask me a few weeks ago if I had any banana jam, I had just sold my last banana chutney, which I won't be making again (not a big seller) and we had a long chat, it was something she had experienced while in the caribbean on holiday, so this sounds about right.

Might be worth a go some time, but worried about the 'brittle thread' bit, I'd say at that stage it's nearly toffee?

I made some banana jam but to a different recipe: to a kilo of peeled, mashed bananas I added 500g apple pulp ( leftover from jelly-making), 1.2kg sugar, bag of pectin powder, tsp vanilla and 1/2tsp cinnamon. Cooked as any other jam, it had set quite softly and tasted delicious! Ooh I had added juice of a lemon, too, and was considering lime juice for the next batch!

There is only one answer to having two recipes- make both and see which is more popular.

Got to add- banana jam is quite an unknown entity and I found it didn't sell very well until people had a chance to taste it- perhaps do a small trial batch?
