Picked some greengages - lovely and sweet, and made some jam (still more on the tree!). I cheated a tiny bit - and added a couple of drops of green colouring. Last time it turned out a brown colour, not quite so appealing, but with the colouring, it now looks a 'greengage' colour!!

Not sure if the colour is obvious, but here's my pic!

Never seen giant round ones before Val eeek.  The chutney does look good.  We've still got a couple of jars left from last year.....probably coz husband isn't keen on it roll_eyes (actually, have to say I'm not overstruck on it either......might bin it and make a new batch.....well, I do need the jars!! whistle).

Any chance of the recipe, Val?

Here y'are, Sue:

Courgette Chutney

***************

1½lbs/750g courgettes, sliced or chopped finely

1½ tbspns salt

***************

8 ozs/250g tomatoes, skinned and chopped

4 ozs/125g onions, chopped

4 ozs/125g sultanas

1 tbspn coarsely grated orange rind

1 lb/500g sugar

12 fl ozs/350ml distilled spiced clear vinegar

1 tspn ground cinnamon

***************

2 ozs/50g walnuts

This was the recipe I loosely followed (!) " I used a small tin of plum tomatoes, and sieved it " no pips.

I added 50g chopped dates.

I used chopped pecans, not walnuts (I didn™t have any walnuts!)

Put the courgettes in a colander and sprinkle with the salt in layers.

Leave at least 2 hours, then rinse thoroughly. Allow to drain.

Put courgettes into pan with the remaining ingredients, except the walnuts (pecans).

Heat gently, stirring until sugar has dissolved.

Simmer until thickened, and finally stir in the walnuts/pecans.

Pour into hot sterilised jars and seal.

Makes about 1.5kgs (3 lbs)

"How do you spell 'Love'?" (Piglet).

"You don't spell it, you feel it" (Pooh).

'A hug,' said Pooh 'is always the right size!'

Thanks a lot Val, I'll give it a go big_hug

I like your addition of dates.  I'll leave out the nuts (of whatever persuasion! wink) as husband wouldn't be keen on that version of courgette chutney either.....he can't abide nuts in anything (other than walnuts in cake roll_eyes).
