I know its not bonfire night yet, however, I'm curious about what everyone will be having for Christmas day, We'll be having our customary capon as we're not fussed on turkey.

I dislike turkey confused too, Steve. Always have. Might be goose but that is expensive (£50 to £60 approx) for just the two of us - me and my housemate Ben. So I think it will be duck. Assuming I don't get invited somewhere for the day.

For years I dreamed of a big joint of beef for Christmas Day but we have had that twice in the past three weeks and the novelty has worn off. Probably monkfish for Boxing Day. As always, I will have a ham joint on the sideboard throughout the season and will cut a slice every time I pass by!

My sloe_gin treats will be a crate of good reds, a bottle of Hine Antique cognac and/or Janneau armagnac and plenty of tins of sweets and biscuits. And Rennies big_laugh

I've got what feels like a hundredweight of onions to brine this week for pickling.

It does feel too early to be thinking about the late december festive meal... but I might treat myself to a turducken this year
