OH has always been a list person, I just make it up as I go along.

Hi, Liquinner smile Don't you feel though that doing it this way, you spend unnecessarily?

wave  I am going into town tomorrow and have a list of the things I need, but that does not mean that I will not buy other items too. whistle

I also don't plan meals a week ahead.  I buy fruit and veg from the van and I always have lots in the freezer, so never have a problem making a meal from what I have in.  I also have a good store cupboard.

Danast, I can't really say I plan meals ahead of time. I do buy all the same 'base' foods every month. For example, we have Mexican food once a month...like you, I will also buy above and beyond my list if something is a good deal; marked down/on sale. With left overs, which isn't often, I'll sometimes try something a little different, for variety~

We usually have a shopping list on the go in the kitchen and we add to it whenever we notice we're running low on an ingredient. We try to make sure we always have some veg (such as peppers, courgette, leek), some carbs (pasta, rice, other grains such as quinoa) and some meat (usually chicken or fish).

We rarely plan our meals more than a day or two in advance apart from when we have a few short-dated foods which need eating in a particular order.

Sadly I can't take credit for it, it originally came from a comic strip called Pearls Before Swine but that particular one struck a chord with me.

Mike, do you still have your little quails?

I'll try that again!

We do - there are about 10 or so in our back garden (I haven't actually counted them for a while, I just top up their food and water every couple of days). Looking forward to the spring when they start laying again but til then, I'm still eating my way through the big jar of pickled eggs from last year.

I am a list maker too. I don't have a master food list because so much of our food is stuff we have grown or meat given to us. I shop at the local shops most of the time and there is only a limited range of foods we can get from there anyway and so the list is only to remind me what we have run out of. We have a cork board with our list pinned on that.

I wish my days were like the cartoon at the moment. This last month has been one appointment after another so it seems. Not as much time to think and plan as I would like. Hi Lillia by the waywave, we haven't met before despite the fact that normally I'm a regular.
