Just been to Tesco to do a top up shop.....didn't need much, just a bit of fresh stuff & milk.  However, they were reducing loads of fresh meat/fish - we got smoked cod, salmon, 2 packs of pork chops, chicken pieces, sausages all reduced to half price.  They were also selling Christmas decorate your own boxed gammon joints, 1.3kg in weight, reduced to £2.00 (don't know what they were to start with, but gammons of that size are usually around £7 or so) - we bought two to freeze.  I quite often buy a gammon joint for £5 or £7, cook it and slice it on our electric slicer, then freeze in portion packs......husband has this in his sarnies for work, so much cheaper (and nicer) than the prepacked full of added water & nitrates tasteless stuff.

Glad we went in there, it was well worth it.

We managed to find beef mince packs reduced to 75p, so bought six packs and froze them!

In Waitrose, on Monday, daughter had asked us to pick up a cucumber, and the half-sizes were being reduced to 19p, so bought two for her, and also some chipolatas reduced, so bought them for the freezer, but daughter wanted those too !!

I got a couple of hams the other day for next to nothing and stuck them in the freezer, think they were £1.5o reduced from around 6 quid.  Trying to stay away at the moment as just can't resist bargains but not much freezer space and lots of food around to eat up.

I am not yet up to shopping, but P arrived smiling on Saturday with a dozen free range eggs for 30p, from local Spar. That was the 4th, they were best before the 9th what_the_heck

We feed the swans, ducks, moorhens and probably magpies as well each morning with bread and seeds. In Waitrose they had some large Hovis multigrain loaves for 29p. We only had a basket (not a trolley!), so we bought 5 loaves and put them in the freezer!

Are you near a river or pond, then, Val? My only contact with birds are the sparrows that come to my bird feeders. I used to love visiting the local pond to feed the ducks when I lived in Scotland. It was an easy stroll or short drive. Everything is too built up here.

Chris we are about 15 - 20 yards from a river - but it is very near the river source!

It has become a lot wider in recent weeks (!); but on the other side of the river are acres of fields which have old Victorian ditches (with sluices), and they would flood first if it was going to flood at all. Phew! laugh

I was born in Arbroath (my mother was living in Montrose at the time, during the war) but lived just outside Glasgow, Bearsden and Milngavie area, you may have heard of it.
