Can anyone with a vacuum sealer have a look at this one being sold by Lidl and give there opinion. They only talk about it being used for frozen and fridge? How long should dehydrated food last in a cupboard after being vacuumed sealed?  The video can be watched without allowing the Adobe Flash settings i.e. click deny. Thank you John

Well, I have just watched the first of the video and here are my opinions.

For occasional use it may well be OK, remember you get what you pay for. whistle

It looks very much like mine, on which the pump is OK but not brilliant, likewise the pump in the video doesn't look that great. The vacuumed bag looked as though it had a couple of small air pockets left.

The main problem with the cheap one is the sealing wire. Mine is on its way out and doesn't make a good seal. |I wonder how long the Lidl one will last.

The vacuuming method  isn't the best. The Lidl one, like mine, has an insert that goes inside the bag. This isn't the best idea as it doesn't allow the bag to sit flat in the machine thus making it harder to seal, also you may get leakage around the tube. The better ones use bags that have micro channels on the inside. The air is taken out  into a central chamber as opposed via a tube. This method allows the bag to sit flat giving a full width vacuuming and a better seal.

I'd like to have a play with one but think I shall save my money for a better one.

Thank you I may give it a miss and just do some in the freezer and some in boxes in pantry and see how long the last maybe some in jars. Sauses seem to last forever in jars ie years. Thanks again JOHN

If anyone that is going to the open day wants my third hand whistle vacuum sealer so they can get an idea of using one then let me know. I can take it with me.

I have succumbed to what appears to be a decent vacuum sealer

Had a card left so it looks like it has had a delivery attempt. Phoned City Link to tell them I'll pick it up tomorrow ok

I'll let you know how I get on with it.

wave You will have to let me know how you get on with it Simon.  I use mine quite a lot, but it is getting on a bit and may have to replaced soon.

All up and running.

Here is a photo of my first proper attempt with my new vacuum sealer, sealed some smoked garlic and some coffee beans. Worked just fine...

Sadly I don't have a freezer cry But yes could be frozen.  The garlic stays good for 2 to 4 weeks in the fridge. Vacuum backed I reckon several months.
